Special Edition Official Release!

Balloons

Hello! This is Katelina from Joleene Naylor’s Amaranthine series. I’d like to announce that the (un) awaited Special Editions Vols I and II are finally available everywhere. And here to tell us more about them is my author!

*Verchiel strolls in* Um, that’s a no go. Our amazing author is too busy.

Katelina: You’re joking.  What am I supposed to do with the rest of this post? I guess that’s it folks. Here are the links to grab your own copies of the Special Editions:

Amaranthine Special Edition Vol I:

paperback
Amazon Kindle
B&N Nook
Smashwords
Sony ebook

Amaranthine Special Edition Vol II:

.

paperback
Amazon Kindle
B&N Nook
Smashwords

Verchiel: Wait, wait. What’s that? It doesn’t make people want to check it out. You have to tell them why they want to. You have to make them excited! Offer them some cookies, some punch, maybe a balloon!

K: You go ahead. besides, why do they want to check the Special Editions out? They probably already have the books, so why buy them again?

V: That’s true. Though there is a bunch of bonus content, like character artwork, flash fiction, links to downloadable content, deleted scenes and character interviews.

K: You mean those interviews where the blog readers asked us questions?

V: Those are the ones. Jo tidied them up a bit, but they’re basically the same. So for all those who asked questions, if you’d like to see your name in print…

K: And what deleted scenes?

V: You know, the Lost Chapters from Legacy of Ghosts. Geeze, where have you been?

K: And character artwork? that’s weak.

V: Not at all. Some of it is new, and the Executioner gallery has never been published anywhere before except those cool cards she gave away to three people.

K: Fine, so there’s a little bit of bonus content. Still not worth buying it.

V: You’re a tightwad. But fine, if someone already owns them then maybe it’s not worth it. What if they don’t, though  What if they’ve put off buying the ebooks, or even the paperbacks? I’ve done the math an it’s cheaper to buy the two special editions than it is to buy all four paperbacks. And as for the ebooks it works out to the same price for the Special Editions as buying all four individually, and there’s still bonus features. You can’t get better than that. And they make the perfect gift! What could be better than two books in one? Especially when I’m in them?

K: How about two books you’re NOT in? I just don’t see the point in combining them, except to give them shiny new covers without admitting that her old covers need some work.

V: You’re pretty negative when it comes to our wonderful author, aren’t you? The point is to put them together the way they were meant to be. If you remember, there were originally two loooooong books she split into four.

K: Whatever you say. Since you seem so enthusiastic about this, you finish the post up. I’m going to go do something more interesting like take a bath or watch paint dry. It’s not like our author cared enough to even show.

V: She’s very busy this month.

K: Yeah, writing more horrible crap happening to me. Oh boy, oh boy. Seriously, have fun. *leaves*

V: You’ll have to excuse her, dear readers. I’m afraid she’s a little bitter right now because… well, no spoilers, but let’s say Munich isn’t working out like she planned. In the meantime, if you haven’t completed your Amaranthine collection, or if you’re a new reader, or if you’re looking for the perfect gift, check out these links and snag your copies today!

Smashwords is getting faster, but… The Saga of the Special Editions

After reading that Smashwords  sped up the approval process for the premium catalog, I decided not to upload a separate NOOK version of the Special Editions through PubIt, but instead let Smashwords distribute it to Barnes and Noble to see if they really were faster.

The answer is yes and no.

I uploaded the books on the 14th and by the 17th – three days later! – I was approved for the premium catalog. This is quite a change from the month it took for Ties of Blood! But, approval isn’t shipping. Despite the fact that books are supposed to ship to Barnes & Noble every Thursday or Friday, mine sat for a week and finally shipped on the 26th – nearly two weeks after it was approved – and as of this posting the books still do not appear on BarnesandNoble.com, which means my official launch will either be incomplete or will have to wait some more.  EDIT: On October 2nd they finally showed up on B&N’s site, almost a week after shipping.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Uploaded – Sept 14
  • Approved – Sept 17
  • Apple – shipped  Sept 17th – (visible sometime between Oct 15th & 28th)
  • Barnes & Noble – shipped Sept 26th, visible on their site Oct 2nd
  • Diesel –  shipped Sept 19th – was listed on their site by Sept 26th (maybe sooner)
  • Page Foundry – shipped Sept 24th
  • Sony – Shipped Sept 27th (listed on their site Oct 2nd)
  • Kobo – shipped Oct 25 (listed on their site Oct 28)
  • Baker-Taylor – still not shipped as of Oct 28

Bottom line? Yeah, they’ve gotten faster, but if you want to let Smashwords handle all your distribution, and you want it shipped by release date, start  four weeks early.

What are my plans? I intend to let Smashwords handle all versions, though I think I will upload to PubIt initially as I have had no problems with having a Smashwords version and PubIt version, and in fact sell a handful of PubIt versions even after Smashwords shows up, though I always sell more SW copies. Example:

  • September B&N sales through SW=72
  • September PubIt sales =14

And PubIt pays monthly, as opposed to SW quarterly, so it puts a little money in my pocket in the meantime.

Jesslynn now on Smashwords!

The tenth Vampire Morsel, Jesslynn, is now available as a free read on Smashwords.com.

Short Story. Not for children. Part of a collection called Vampire Morsels about vampires from the Amaranthine universe. When Jesslynn’s baby gets sick, she sees only way to save him; by discovering whatever dark ritual keeps their neighbor, Jorick, healthy and eternally young. She gets more than she bargained for.

It’s still pending approval for the extended distribution, but once it is approved it will filter through to Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc.  Ashes of Deceit got approved quickly, so hopefully only a couple of weeks.

This is the last freebie I will post for awhile because later this month I will publish the Vampire Morsels collection featuring all seventeen stories in one book.  And, yes, I am going to charge for it, which means Amazon will finally get the Morsels. ;)

COMING SOON!

Herrick now on Smashwords!

The ninth Vampire Morsel, Herrick, is now available as a free read on Smashwords.com.

Short Story. Not for children. Part of a collection called Vampire Morsels about vampires from the Amaranthine universe. Takes place during Shades of Gray (the full length novel also by Joleene Naylor). Herrick’s unrequited love for the mortal Caroline has left him on the fence. Should he take his friend’s advice and reveal the truth to her? When tragedy strikes, his mind is made up for him.

It’s still pending approval for the extended distribution, but once it is approved it will filter through to Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc.  Oddly, Elsa is STILL pending review, too.

Jesslynn will be next up on Smashwords, I need to have it proof read and get the cover done, and I am hopefully going to write Nirel this week. I know, promises, promises.

Elsa now on Smashwords!

The eighth Vampire Morsel, Elsa, is now available as a free read on Smashwords.com.

Short Story. Not for children. The eighth in a collection called Vampire Morsels about different vampires from the Amaranthine universe. Twenty year old Elsa is devastated when her “true love” remorselessly skips town. When she sets off after him, she finds more than she bargained for. You can also find Claudius in Shades of Gray by Joleene Naylor.

It’s still pending approval for the extended distribution, but once it is approved it will filter through to Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc.

You might notice the “Not suitable for children” tag. Yeah. I checked out my Barnes & Noble reviews today and for some reason several of them are complaining that these are not children’s stories. I’m not sure why anyone would think they were. I have also added “Not suitable for tweens” to my smashwords descriptions for the series because there are several posts asking about this (which is odd because I don’t see a way to reply to the questions). The simple answer is “NO! these are not tween books!” However, I have to admit if I had a tween and they really wanted to read it I’d let them, but then I was raised in a liberal household ;)

I am working on Kateesha’s story right now and hopefully will have it done and posted in the next couple of days.

Bethina on Smashwords

The sixth Vampire Morsel is now up on Smashwords as a free read!

Short Story. The sixth in a collection about different vampires from the Amaranthine universe. The year is 1947. With her tuberculosis getting worse, Bethina’s only future is to languish in a TB San. Then the mysterious family she works for offers her a full time position, one that will change her life forever. You can also find Bethina in the novel Shades of Gray.

Claudius will be next on Smashwords, as soon as I get a chance to do some editing, and a rough draft of Jesslynn will be coming to this blog sometime. I am hoping later this week, but  I make no promises.

Ties of Blood on Barnes & Noble

Ties of Blood is now on the Nook:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/ties-of-blood-joleene-naylor/1106014034

Funny story, though.

So last Thursday I mailed Smashwords, about why the book was still not up a month later. They answer promptly and said it would likely go out next week (yesterday) and would take two weeks after that to show up.  At that point it was another three weeks, so i said “forget this!” and joined pubit and uploaded my first book directly. Here’s where it gets funny. Because of my annoying hyphenated name (it seems like a good idea, ladies, but it’s’ not. No one is equipped to deal with it.) My account was pending until Wednesday, when it was approved any my book began processing. Today, it is published – and now for the hilarious part – meanwhile the Smashwords version magically showed up and is also there! Ha! So there are two identical versions – one through pubit and one through smashwords! Insane, I know. But anyway, it;s there, so I guess that’s what counts.

Anyway, go get it for your nook!
