With the upcoming release of Legacy of Ghosts, book 2 in the Amaranthine series, it’s time for a contest!
The Prizes:
Two winners, chosen by random drawing, will each win an autographed, paperback copy of Legacy of Ghosts. One winner, chosen by random drawing from the bonus contest entries, will receive, the Amaranthine pack: an autographed paperback copy of Shades of Gray and an autographed, paperback copy of Legacy of Ghosts.
The Technical Details:
The contest starts Friday, September 24th, 2010, and lasts until October 8th, 2010 at 11:59 pm.
You can answer all eight questions (If applicable – you’ll see what I mean) and there is no limit to the number of times you can enter the bonus contest.
Please include your name and email address with each entry. If you prefer not to share your email address publicly, then please note so in the comment, and send the address to Joleene@JoleeneNaylor.com
To make it easier for me to count the entries, please answer only one question per comment.
Bonus contest entries can be emailed to Joleene@JoleeneNaylor.com OR you can post links in the comments below. It may take up to 24 hours for me to comment or mail you back with confirmation, so don’t panic. If you send an email and don’t hear from me in 48 hours, please email again, as cyberspace has probably eaten it.
Yes, the more entries you have, the greater your chance of winning, as the winning names will be drawn from a hat (or a bowl, or something like that). Yeah, I could use Random.org, but where’s the fun in that?
The official drawing will be filmed and uploaded to YouTube, then posted on this blog, my MySpace and Blogger blogs on October 10th, 2010. Winners will be notified at the email address they provided, no later than the 12th of October, 2010, and will need to then send me a mailing address. I will send a second email to the winners when the prizes have been mailed.
The Contest:
Answer one (or more) of the following questions in a comment. Please, only one answer per comment, and leave your name and email address. If you prefer not to share your email address publicly, then please note so in the comment, and send the address to Joleene@JoleeneNaylor.com
1. If Shades of Gray was made into a movie, who would you choose to star in it?
2. If you could pick one character from the Amaranthine series to hang out with who would it be?
3. If you could pick one character to “kill off” in Legacy of Ghosts, who would it be?
4. If you haven’t read Shades of Gray, why not? If it was a free eBook, would you?
5. The great debate: Which do you prefer, paperback books, or books that you can read on a device (Kindle/Nook/etc) or books you can read on the computer (PDF/etc)?
6. If given the chance to become a vampire, would you? Why or why not?
7. Who’s cooler? Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, or Bat Boy?
8. If you see a free, or cheap, eBook do you think “Cool! Cheap!” or do you think, “That must not be any good if it’s free!”?
Bonus Contest:
To enter the bonus contest, all you have to do is pimp out the contest, the book, the blog, or the website. This includes posting a banner on your website, MySpace profiles or blogs, forum signatures, etc, or making forum posts, twitter posts, facebook links, blogging, or painting the url on a t-shirt and wearing it the grocery store (okay, I don’t think that one’s going to catch on!) or anything else you can think of. You can even use the handy “Share” buttons on the bottom of this blog (You still need to let me know you’ve done it, though!)
If you’d like, you can find tags, banners and “animated bites” on the Help Spread the Word page.
But wait. What if you’ve done some pimping in the past, or you already have a Shades of Gray banner posted? Well, it counts! That’s right, it doesn’t matter if it was a week ago, or a year ago, it can count as an entry!
To enter the bonus contest, just send me a link or a screen capture of the “pimp”.
Links can be mailed to Joleene@JoleeneNaylor.com or posted in a comment below. Each unique link is worth one entry, and you can include as many links per mail/comment as you want.
Screen Capture images should be sent to Joleene@JoleeneNaylor.com, either inline or as an attachment.
To make a screen capture:
1. open the page in your browser.
2. on your keyboard press the Print Screen button. It may be abbreviated as Prt Sc, Prnt Scr, etc. Or you may need to hold the function key at the same time (My laptop is this way).
3. open an image editing program (Paintbrush will work) and choose Paste or Paste as New Image from the edit menu.
4. go to File > Save, and save your image. A JPG is best, but any image type will work.
If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments, or mail me, and I will do my best to answer them.
I’m looking forward to your entries!

Sharon
/ September 24, 2010Question #5 I don’t like reading books on the computer, bleh. Between paper and ebooks, which ever one I can get the book on. I like ebooks for instant gratification and some authors you just can’t get in paper form. I like to have a paper copy of the first book in a series I love so I can try and hook others on it, yes, I am a book pimp
sstogner1@triad.rr.com
Sharon
Joleene Naylor
/ September 24, 2010Yeah. my problem is if I am on the PC I have so many other things to do that I can;t really compute the idea of reading a book on it, LOL!
Sharon
/ September 24, 2010Question #6 Depends on the rules . I would if I didn’t have to kill to feed. No sunlight wouldn’t bother me.
Joleene Naylor
/ September 24, 2010I don’t see why they’d have to kill people, I think a light snack would do it >:)
Sharon
/ September 24, 2010Question #7 I think shifters are cooler right now (except for Jorick, no one is cooler than him )
Joleene Naylor
/ September 24, 2010*gasp* cooler than bat boy?
(hee-hee, I couldn’t help it! :-p)
Sharon
/ September 24, 2010Question #8 Definitely I think COOL! cheap book. I go by the book description. That is how I found your book.

Ruth Ann Nordin
/ September 24, 20101. If Shades of Gray was made into a movie, who would you choose to star in it?
Jorick = Orlando Bloom
Katelina = Kirsten Dunst (as a blond)
ruth@ruthannnordin.com
Ruth
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Nice picks! Especially loving Orlando Bloom in this piccy:
oooh… yeah….
and I’ve always though Kirsten Dunst was cute – especially blonde!
Ruth Ann Nordin
/ September 25, 2010That is a great one. 😉
Ruth Ann Nordin
/ September 24, 20102. If you could pick one character from the Amaranthine series to hang out with who would it be?
I’d pick Patrick to learn more about him. There seemed to be missing pieces to the puzzle only he can answer. 😀 I’m guessing book 2 will address this.
ruth@ruthannnordin.com
Ruth
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010well, there’s one scene that is a total flashback and exists simply because I wanted to see it 😉 Not sure it answers too much, though, LOL!
Ruth Ann Nordin
/ September 24, 20105. The great debate: Which do you prefer, paperback books, or books that you can read on a device (Kindle/Nook/etc) or books you can read on the computer (PDF/etc)?
Kindle. I don’t care how much people love to sniff, cuddle, lick, whatever, with a paperback, the Kindle is convenient for a busy mother who can listen to a book while cleaning up after the animals…I meant kids. 😛
And it’s easier to take the park where you don’t have to worry about the glaring sun to bounce off the extra white pages or the wind blowing the pages around. Plus, I never need a bookmark to mark my place.
As a final rant (LOL), Kindles and other ereaders save books from destruction. I had a reader tell me had my book not been on the Kindle, she would have thrown it against the wall, lit it on fire, and cursed it. Okay, exaggerating on the fire part. But you see, my book was simply deleted from the Kindle instead of abused. I say, “Down with book abuse!” 😉
Enough rambling.
ruth@ruthannnordin.com
Ruth
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010I wish my phone app had a bookmark capability with it. It would undoubtedly be more convenient, but as it is I have to remember where I was and then find it each time…
yes! down with book abuse, indeed!
Ruth Ann Nordin
/ September 24, 20106. If given the chance to become a vampire, would you? Why or why not?
Nope. Schools require parents to be awake and active during daylight hours. 😛

Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Ha ha! well, maybe you could use an umbrella? LOL!
Ruth Ann Nordin
/ September 24, 20108. If you see a free, or cheap, eBook do you think “Cool! Cheap!” or do you think, “That must not be any good if it’s free!”?
I think “Cool! Cheap!” and usually “Generous author”. Contrary to popular opinion, I’ve read tons of highly priced ebooks ($5 or more) that sucked. Price doesn’t have anything to do with quality. I think it’s often telling about the author’s temperment. Those who charge more, I assume are greedy and probably not likeable in real life. Those who price $5 or less, to me, are more likeable since I assume they are givers more than takers.

Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20101. If Shades of Gray was made into a movie, who would you choose to star in it?
Oh Wow, I’ll have to go back to my blog. Hold on a minute. I pick Elisabeth Röhm as Katelina and Orlando Bloom as Jorick
jissilly@yahoo.com
Here is my first entry. In this exciting contest that you know I plan to pimp the heck out of.
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010That makes two votes for Orlando 🙂 As you know, I’m all good with that 😉
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20102. If you could pick one character from the Amaranthine series to hang out with who would it be?
At first I thought Torina, for obvious reasons. But considering that she’s a vampire who thinks of humans as food, I think I would probably be content just to have her calendar. Jorick doesn’t seem to be very good company. I don’t think I would want to pal around with him. I guess if you exclude all the vampires that would see me as lunch or a play thing, then that would leave Katelina. We could go for fast food or something..
jissilly@yahoo.com 2nd entry
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010I dunno, Torina likes to play with her food sometimes. the trick would be to escape before she got to the food part of the evening.
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20103. If you could pick one character to “kill off” in Legacy of Ghosts, who would it be?
Oh no, you can’t kill off another character. I guess it would make sense to kill off Kateesha, but only if you introduce somebody nastier.
Entry 3
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010And that’s two votes for Kateesha too! She is evil….
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20103. If you could pick one character to “kill off” in Legacy of Ghosts, who would it be?
Oh no, you can’t kill off another character. I guess it would make sense to kill off Kateesha, but only if you introduce somebody nastier.

entry 3 with the email address included
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010gotcha 😉 still only counts as one *good natured ribbing*
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20104. If you haven’t read Shades of Gray, why not? If it was a free eBook, would you?
I’ve read Shades of Gray and I plan to get a paperback copy for my sister in law for Christmas. As for free eBooks. I have two downloaded on a memory stick, but I never get around to reading them.
jissilly@yahoo.com
entry 4
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Cool! I hope your sister in law likes it 🙂 If you want it autographed lemme know. we can do that. Unless you win, then you’ll have an autographed one coming. 😛
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20105. The great debate: Which do you prefer, paperback books, or books that you can read on a device (Kindle/Nook/etc) or books you can read on the computer (PDF/etc)?
Right now I prefer Paper Back. Sometimes I have to give my eyes a rest from the digital screen.
jissilly@yahoo.com
entry 5
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010I hear you there!
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20106. If given the chance to become a vampire, would you? Why or why not?
It depended on who was doing the turning and what the plans were. Right now I say know. I can’t even see too much blood on the television without feeling queasy.
jissilly@yahoo.com
Entry 6
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Maybe they could whip it up into a nice souffle or something so you;d never notice it?
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20107. Who’s cooler? Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, or Bat Boy?
Duh! Zombies. Zombies are taking over the Supernatural Scene. Everyone knows that. And no, that doesn’t make me a zombie.
jissilly@yahoo.com
entry 7
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Suuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrreee. If you say so.
Jonathan Harvey
/ September 24, 20108. If you see a free, or cheap, eBook do you think “Cool! Cheap!” or do you think, “That must not be any good if it’s free!”?
At first I think. Cool Free! Then I think about all the other unread free books I have on my memory stick and say, “Maybe I’ll come back to that.”
jissilly@yahoo.com
Entry 8
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Ha ha! Yeah, I have a pile of those in my My Docs folder! Someday…
falcon1974
/ September 24, 2010OK Question 5 I would say that I prefer paperback books/hardcovers. I have yet to try the e-book versions simply because I love the feel of a book in my hand. Plus, I still believe books are easier to take wherever you wish to read them. 😀
talonkardde2000@yahoo.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Yeah, that’s a really common reason. I like the ability to “accidentally” drop them in, say the bathtub, without fear of ruining the 200$ unit… You just dry the pages out. Sure, they’re wrinkled, but they read just fine.
falcon1974
/ September 24, 2010Question 7 is a toss-up… Vampires and Werewolves would annihilate zombies and batboy. However, when having to chose between the two, I end up giving a very slight edge to Vampires. Being undead and immortal (baring any unforeseen events involving sharp sticks or sunlight) is better than morphing into a furry creature. 😀
talonkardde2000@yahoo.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010Plus vampires don’t need flea collars. Ha ha!
*hides as the werewolf community comes after her*
falcon1974
/ September 24, 20104) I probably would if it was free though, that whole eBook thing scares me. 😀
I think it is simply because I do most of my book shopping in book stores. I rarely shop online for books. The only two I can think of were both unavailable in the US and they were the final book in a series. I just couldn’t wait to actually finish reading the series. 😀
talonkardde2000@yahoo.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 25, 2010yeah, it’s taken years for me to slide over to online shopping. at first it was just for something I couldn’t find anywhere else. Now, the convenience and instant gratification is getting to me 😉
Artswebshow
/ September 25, 2010That’s a good idea.
Best of luck wit it
Joleene Naylor
/ September 26, 2010Thanks! 🙂
Amanda
/ September 27, 2010I will answer question 7- I think Vampires are cooler.
Peace,
Amanda
My e-mail is, olivia48624@yahoo.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 27, 2010Thanks, Amanda! You’re entered 🙂
Moridin
/ September 27, 2010#4: I haven’t read it because I haven’t heard about it before. If it were a free eBook, I wouldn’t read it because I don’t have an eBook reader and I don’t like eBooks.
Joleene Naylor
/ September 27, 2010Yeah, I have started trying to read the eBooks on my phone because I am too cheap to buy a Kindle yet, and it’s really inconvenient there. I have done some eBooks as PDF’s on the computer, though.
Thanks for entering!
Moridin
/ September 27, 2010#5: Paperback (though hardcover is also good)
Joleene Naylor
/ September 27, 2010Yeah, i should have put paper back/hard cover in that question instead!
Moridin
/ September 27, 2010#6: No because I dislike vampires and would not want to have their characteristics.
Joleene Naylor
/ September 27, 2010I don’t know if I could handle the blood drinking bit. it’s all well and good on paper, but in reality….
Moridin
/ September 27, 2010#7: Zombies
Joleene Naylor
/ September 27, 2010Zombies can be a lot of fun 🙂
Moridin
/ September 27, 2010#8: I’d think “Cool! Cheap!” because having low-priced eBooks may just be a marketing tool rather than a result of a bad book.
Joleene Naylor
/ September 27, 2010And that makes five! Got you down! Thanks 😀
Steph
/ September 28, 20101. Jorick = Glenn Danzig (younger of course)
Katelina = Amy Smart
Oren = Cillian Murphy
Torina = Ali Larter (with red hair)
Kateesha = Halle Berry
Jesslynn = Kate Hudson (with black hair)
I’m undecided on Patrick and Claudius. I had no real mental picture of Patrick. Claudius I saw a little bitty scrawny feller. I would almost say Leonardo DiCaprio when he was younger and looked 12 even though he was 20 something lol. But I’m not sure he could pull off the part. So, I dunno.
sbronger@gmail.com
🙂
Joleene Naylor
/ September 28, 2010great choices! Esp. Jorick and Katelina 😉
Yes! Exactly! Claudius is this little, scrawny dude! With kind of a petulant sneer going on. Bradley James has the eerily perfect face for him, but he’s a bit bulky in the body department. ( http://s4.hubimg.com/u/755487_f520.jpg )
Steph
/ September 29, 2010Thanks! 🙂
I had to go look up Bradley James, I had never heard of him but, wow! That face is almost dead on to what I pictured! Maybe he could scrawny himself up for the part heh 😀
Joleene Naylor
/ September 29, 2010Hee-hee. He plays Arthur on the BBC’s Merlin – the minute I saw it I was like “holy crap! that’s Claudius!”
I don’t see why we can’t starve him. I mean, they’re starving the kid who plays Merlin to death – http://filmreviewonline.com/wp-content/gallery/merlin-season-2-epsode-3/191143.jpg
Steph
/ September 28, 20102. Hmmmm, I guess Jorick. He seems like I’d get along with him better than any of the others. In some ways he reminds me of my hubby. 🙂
sbronger@gmail.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 28, 2010Scarily, he has a lot in common with mine too! LOL!
Steph
/ September 28, 20103. I’d kill off Torina. I don’t see how she contributes anything (at least of importance) to the story. But maybe Legacy of Ghosts will prove me wrong….
🙂
sbronger@gmail.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 28, 2010It’s funny you say that….
Steph
/ September 28, 20105. I definitely prefer paper books. Reading on the computer or a device (anything that has a backlight) makes my head hurt. And I love flipping pages. Clicking pages is no fun lol.
🙂
sbronger@gmail.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 28, 2010Ah, come on, no clicking? LOL! Yeah, paper is more versatile, I think, but eBooks have the cheap factor going on…. I like garage sale books coz it’s cheap and paper 🙂
Steph
/ September 28, 20106. That’s a tough one. To become a vampire would give you the ability to live for much longer than a human and that would be kind of neat. To be able to live for centuries and watch how everything changes. But in reality who wants to live “forever”? You don’t just get the awesome aspects of life to look forward to, you get all the bad crap too. I don’t think I would want that. I guess my answer is, I don’t know. I wouldn’t want to be given the choice. It would just have to happen.
🙂
sbronger@gmail.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 28, 2010heh-heh, I wouldn’t mind giving it a shot 😉 Living forever, that is.
Steph
/ September 28, 20107. Well, Bat boy is just completely lame. Zombies are only cool to look at. They have no intelligence so that disqualifies them for the coolness award lol. Werewolves are freakin dogs. They stink man. Not cool. However I always found the way they morphed from human form to werewolf rather awesome. Vampires win, they are definitely the coolest. They have more intelligence than the others, in some cases they can be pretty to look at so sometimes they’re easy on the eyes. Well that is of course if it’s not Nosferatu lol. But even Nosferatu kicks butt cause that’s just creepy looking man. So yeah, vampires. The only vampires that don’t qualify are the kind that sparkle…
🙂
sbronger@gmail.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 28, 2010Ha ha! Bat boy is too cool :-p Or he used to be, back in the day. They went kinda berserk with him there a few years ago, then my subscription ran out, so I dunno what happened after that. yeah, I loved that dumb butt magazine! So ridiculous!
Steph
/ September 28, 20108. I usually think if it’s free then it must be no good and they’re desperate to get rid of it lol
🙂
sbronger@gmail.com
Joleene Naylor
/ September 28, 2010And that makes seven 🙂 whoo-hoo!
