Holiday Wish List Blog Hop

Katelina here. Glitterary Girl is hosting the Holiday Wishlist Blog Hop, with plenty of holiday giveaways, and you know Jo can’t resist a good blog hop and giveaway! Sadly, though, she’s busy working on book 6, Children of Shadow, and getting us into all sorts of trouble, so she left me, the protagonist in the Amaranthine series, to come up with a blog post.

Yes, she’s that kind of lazy author.

My holiday wishlist would be a simple one:

I’d like a Christmas Tree that isn’t dripping with gore (long story there), a cup of egg nog,  a nicely wrapped present from my boyfriend Jorick (vampires are capable of shopping too, after all. Wouldn’t hurt him), and a nice, long vacation on a tropical island. After submitting my requests to my author, she has graciously, sort of, granted one of those. of course, she has to let Verchiel come along, so I don’t know how much of a vacation it really is.

See for yourself what I mean:

Katelina slipped from bed and tiptoed out of the large, airy bedroom in search of a bathroom. It wouldn’t be long before the sun was up. Already the sky beyond outside had a thin, colorless quality along the horizon. Soon all the protective plates would be in place to block the burning sunlight and protect the house’s occupants. Through the windows she could already see some of the island’s occupants struggling to put them in place.

When she was finished, she slipped through one of the corridor doors to a broad balcony. The last of the night breezes blew her long hair back from her face and tried to tell her stories of others who’d stood on the sandy beaches and bathed in the surf.

She surveyed the lush lawn below and traced the line of palm trees that marched down to the beach. The whole place was almost too perfect.

“That’s why it’s expensive,” a voice volunteered from the shadows. Katelina turned to see Verchiel step out onto the balcony. Dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of baggy shorts, his ridiculous red hair was wet and the faint smell of soap wafted from him. He stopped next to her and leaned on the railing. Like she had, he scanned the beach scene, and something strange passed across his face.

“What?” she asked.

“It just seems… I don’t know. Maybe I’ve been here before.” He shrugged and stepped back, his usual smile plastered on his face. He nodded towards the humans hurriedly fastening up the last of the metal plates. “The sun will be up soon, and since I don’t fancy a third degree sunburn I’ll leave you to it.”

He started back for the door and Katelina asked absently, “Don’t you miss it? The sunrise, I mean.”

“Nah. I’ve already told you I don’t remember anything from before Kateesha turned me, including sunrises. Besides, I have a rather snazzy tropical sunrise calendar in my apartment back at the Citadel, so I can see one every day if I want.” He gave her a wink. “Don’t stay out too late or Jorick will worry.”

And then he disappeared.

And now for the giveaway! One lucky commenter will win a copy of the 2014 Sunrise calender, so just like Verchiel you can look at the sunrise anytime you want.

cal2

The calender! (Yes, that IS a homemade Jorick ornament to the right. I got creative with sculpy)

I will use Random.org on December 21st (or thereabouts) to choose a winner. winner will be contacted via email or facebook so PLEASE leave your contact info in you comment or email it to me (Joleene at JoleeneNaylor dot com) or your entry is ineligible. It’s too hard for me to chase people down.

Happy Holidays!!

Official Website Launch!

It’s official! The new website – http://JoleeneNaylor.com – is finished. Done. Ready for world wide release.

So what does that mean?

It’s time for a giveaway! Since the latest book is Heart of the Raven… what? No, sadly I don’t have any vampire hearts up for grabs, but I do have the next best thing – some adorable little ravens!

crows

That’s right, up to three lucky winners will each get one of these little ravens. They come with wire on their feet so you can attach them to anything you want. They look great as everyday decor, or with Halloween around the corner you can use them as part of you holiday decorations. How do you enter? It’s easy, just checkout the updated site at http://JoleeneNaylor.com and then let me know in a comment below what your favorite part is. The more entries I get, the more winners there will be (up to three), so be sure to share it (there are some handy Facebook, twitter, Pinterest buttons etc. at the bottom of this post).

And that’s it! Check the site, leave a comment below (with a way for me to contact you, either email or your facebook profile) and you’re entered. Random.org will choose the winner(s) on the 30th of September and I will notify them by mail or FB message no later than October 2nd. If I don’t hear back within a week I will choose a new winner. Etc. Etc.

Thanks for stopping in and good luck!

Summer of Love Blog Hop

Glitterary Girl Media is hosting the Summer of Love giveaway blog hop, and yours truly is a participant. There’s a lot of summer fun going on, not just on my blog, but on the other participant’s sites, so be sure to check them out! (this will take you to a linky list of other blogs).

So what are we doing here on the Amaranthine blog? First I thought I’d share an excerpt of my Work in Progress; Book 6 of the Amaranthine series, which I have tentatively titled Children of Shadows (due early 2014). Second, is the giveaway, detailed towards the bottom of this blog.

Now for the excerpt!

Katelina leaned back in the beach chair. She could hear the waves lapping the sandy beach, and the cry of some far off bird. A gull maybe? She didn’t know enough about birds to say for sure, but it made sense.

Above her the moon hung in a thin crescent, like a fingernail clipping. Uncountable stars twinkled, and farther down the beach a bonfire glowed with a throbbing orange. She could make out the silhouettes of revelers – or more accurately the idiots – who gathered around it.

“Enjoying yourself?”

Katelina looked to her left where Jorick reclined in his own chair. His long black hair was uncharacteristically pulled up in a sloppy bun, but, as if to prove he wasn’t really going to enter the spirit of the adventure, he wore his usual black pullover and slacks.

She forced a smile. “Of course.”

His reply was the fanged grin of a vampire. “I’m glad. You’ve been arguing to come to the beach for months.”

She murmured a noncommittal sound and turned back to the beach scene. Though she knew that her boyfriend and their friends were vampires, somehow her imagined beach vacation had still involved sunlight. Three a.m. on a nearly deserted island wasn’t exactly what she’d had in mind. Where were the tropical drinks? Where were the cabana boys? Where was the summer fun?

Jorick chuckled. “You chose the wrong traveling companions for all of that.”

She sighed. Mind reading; one of his super vampire abilities. “I don’t see why we couldn’t drink something in a tall glass with an umbrella stuck in it.”

A lone figure had abandoned the fire and drew towards them. Katelina scowled at the ridiculous red hair and expanse of pale, naked flesh. The speedo style trunks that he wore left very little to the imagination – not that she wanted to imagine it.

“Of course you do!” Verchiel chirped as he drew to a stop next to her chair. “Are you gloomy gusses going to sit up here by yourselves, or come join the fun?”

Katelina snorted. “It’s just you, Micah and Loren hanging around the bonfire acting macho. I’ve seen enough of that.”

“You forgot Torina,” Jorick commented with amusement.

“Of course, the reason they’re acting like macho idiots.” Her eyes strayed towards the fire and the silhouette of a curvaceous vampiress who happened to be wearing a revealing emerald green bikini. It was enough to make a supermodel feel inadequate. How could she, an average human with an average figure begin to compare?

Jorick caught her hand and squeezed it. “It isn’t a competition.”

“We could have one,” Verchiel suggested with a broad grin. “We could start with the two of you in bikinis, add some pudding, see who comes out on top.”

Katelina gave a squeal of outrage and swung to smack him, but the redhead seemed to evaporate and reappear a few feet away. “Aw, come on. It could be fun! No? All right, but don’t say we didn’t offer!” And then he disappeared only to reappear near the fire a moment later; moving too fast for Katelina to see.

She turned to Jorick, expecting a customary burst of outrage, but he only grinned. “He might be on to something. I imagine you’d look quite fetching wearing nothing but pudding.”

I’ll let you imagine what comes next. 😉

And now for that giveaway I mentioned!

Just because Katelina can’t have tropical drinks doesn’t mean you can’t! I am giving away a pair of over sized glasses and a tin of lime flavored margarita salt.

tropical

ugly Hawaiian shirt not included 😉

To enter leave your email address or your facebook link in the comments below (make sure that you can accept messages from me, even if i am not your friend). The winner will be chosen on August 20th by random.org and I will notify them no later than the 22nd . The winner will need to provide me with a mailing address. If they don’t reply in a week or so I will choose another winner.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck! Please be sure to check out the other entries in the blog hop!

The “Something Old, Something New” Giveaway

As I mentioned in my previous post I’ve been behind, which means I wasn’t able to fully promote the blog tour. That was sad because there were some great hosts and some interesting posts. Thanks to the “forever” nature of the internet, though, it’s never too late to go see something old as if it were new, nor is it too late t giveaway the last pack of Executioner collector cards:

The whole pack – 15 Executioners and one “cover” card:

the whole set

the whole set

The cards are printed on both front and back:

Each card has a front and a back

Each card has a front and a back

Pretty cool, huh? But how can you get your hands on them? It’s easy. Just follow the links below and leave a comment on at least three of the blog posts. You’ll need to comment here and leave me a contact address (either Facebook or your email) and if you want you can tell me where you commented, but you don’t have to. Every comment you leave on an additional blog is an extra entry, so you could actually get up to twenty-two entries by commenting. And if someone says you sent them to this blog in a comment, you get five extra. Oh, and if you’ve already commented on them, say back when the tour was running, then that counts. How easy is that?

Winner will be chosen on June 1, 2013 by Random.org and will be notified by their preferred contact method. If, after two weeks, they haven’t responded a new winner will be chosen. This is open to US and International participants.

And now for that list of eligible blog posts!

Good luck and hope to see you play along!

Author Interview at Lift You Up Blog

Heart of the Raven banner originalJames Oh had some awesome questions, but this was my favorite:

So far what is your worst criticism/attacks, and how have you overcome it?

It was my first bad review. It was on a blog written by a Mrs. Chuckles, or something like that, who tore the first book in the series to shreds. I was upset and told my husband that I needed a chocolate muffin, because only chocolate could soothe my injured soul. We went to the grocery store, but they were completely out of chocolate muffins. No big deal, so we went to wal-mart who, oddly, had no chocolate muffins. Next we tried a gas station, but again, no chocolate muffins. After stopping at every one in town (it was now the principle of the matter! It was a quest, by god, and I *would* succeed!) we finally found one chocolate muffin at Kum ‘N Go. We bought it and headed home. I got in the door and had just settled in to get back to pouting when my mother called (she lives next door), so I left my muffin sitting on the coffee table, still in it’s plastic wrapper. When I came back, the wrapper was there and the muffin was gone. Furious, I yelled at my husband, “I can’t believe you ate it!” He denied it, and it was then that I noticed that the paper muffin cup was also missing. And the dog was smiling. Since then the dog has become a chocolate fiend (he begs for it whenever I have any) and I’ve given up pouting because, in the end, the dog just eats the muffin anyway, so there’s no point. Better to move on and put it behind you.
