Masque of the Vampire – Collector’s Edition Cover Reveal

I’ve had several people ask, “Is there going to be a collector edition of Masque of the Vampire with the hand drawn cover?” The answer to this is yes. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa – I mean, yes vampire lover, there will be a collector edition.

I don’t have links yet (Create Space – aka the paperback people – do not allow for pre-orders) but I do have the cover, so I thought I’d share it with you.

The cover features a new character Annabelle. I’ve had her planned for a long, long time, so I was excited to finally get to use her. Of course writing her turned out to be different than I thought, but that’s the fun of writing.

Though there’s no preorder for the paperback, you can preorder the ebook from:

Barnes & Noble
Apple iBooks
Kobo

Let me know what you think. Good? Bad? Indifferent?

Collector Edition Paper Back Cover

I love the “new” covers, but there are readers who started their collection when I had the old covers. The white covers that had hand drawn art work. I’ve been asked if Clash of Legends will have one of these, and the answer is yes. There will be a collector’s edition. I don’t know what extra content will be in it (besides the novel) but I’ll find something to stick in there. And, of course, it will have the old-style cover.

Tada.

collector's edition
For those who may have missed previous books and are looking for this cover style, there is currently a collector’s edition for Shades of Gray (book 1) and Children of Shadows (book 6). The rest are coming as soon as I get a chance. If you need a particular one let me know and it will get top priority.

And that’s all for now. Unfortunately there is no way to pre-order paperbacks, but if you’d like to order yourselves an ebook copy the links are below.

What do you think of the collector’s cover?

Voting Time!

book-contest-semi-finalistIt’s time to vote in the AuthorsdB book cover contest for 2013! And Legacy of Ghosts is a semi-finalist, meaning I need your votes in order for it to move to the finalist stage.

If you’d like, you can vote for Legacy of Ghosts once a day from now until December 15th. As far as I know you don’t need an account at AuthorsdB in order to vote.

How to vote:

Find the cover(s) you want to vote for (You can vote for all of them if you want) then hover over the stars beneath it.

voting

When you click, you are giving the cover however many stars you’ve clicked on, for instance 4 stars, 5 stars, etc. And since you can vote – or rate – as many books as you want, I’d appreciate it if you’d also give five stars to another book in the same category. It’s Charmeine by the ever talented Emily Guido.

Thanks so much guys! Your votes are really appreciated! And while you’re there, be sure to check out the other categories, too.

Experimental Heart of the Raven Cover

cover vs 2 - 2500

In book five the romance is still taking a backseat, but there’s a bit of a triangle that refuses to go away, so it got a feminizing purple color. The vampires leave the US and do some globe hopping as they search for an ancient relic. Not only do they visit Japan, but the Japanese images evoke tradition, agelessness and a bit of mysticism, which fit the theme of the book perfectly.

Experimental Ashes of Deceit Cover

vs 2 - 2500

The fourth book has even less emphasis on the romance, and more on the culmination of the story arch with Oren and Malick. A lot of things are wrapped up. I went for purpley-blue to give it the edge of feminine. The bulk of the heavy action takes place underground, which doesn’t lend itself to a silhouette, but there are some defining scenes at a country house, so I went for that. I could also claim that the lonely scene emphasizes that, as a human among vampires, Katelina is alone among the monsters.

Experimental Ties of Blood Cover

vs 2 - 2500

Book three  is faster paced with less emphasis on the hunky hero and more on a new character, who wants desperately to involve himself in a triangle just because I told him not to. The highway and the red color scheme reflect the fast pace, as well as the conflict. Not to mention red happens to be the new character’s main color.

Experimental Legacy of Ghosts Cover

vs 2 - 2500

For book two I swapped out the heavy pink/red color of the original cover for a simple blue because, though there is some heavy romance moments, the main challenge in the story is the characters’ regret and how to deal with that. This also contributes to the choice of the graveyard motif, which not only conveys the regret and lost moments, but also gives it a gothy, vampire-ish tone. Plus it looks cool.

Experimental Shades of Gray Cover

vs 2 - 2500

It was supposed to stay red like the original cover, but it turned kind of orangey, but I liked it, so I left it. As for design elements, since the first book does have a heavier romance element it got a hunky hero silhouette. I could give you a lot of crap about the symbolism of the tree, but really I just like trees. Plus they look cool.

The Great Cover Experiment

When I released the Special Editions I conducted a cover experiment – in other words I went for a more “mainstream” look.  At the time I placed a bet that the more traditional style covers would’t make them sell any better, and so far I’ve been right BUT the other half of that bet pointed out that there are too many variables for it to be a fair test. For instance, since they’re double books,  they’re more expensive. They  have no reviews and there aren’t as many back links to their Amazon/B&N/Smashwords pages.

So, to be 100% fair, I’ve decided to remove a few of those variables by temporarily creating new covers for the books on Amazon Kindle only (this will not effect the paper back versions). If my Amazon sales leap upwards at a higher rate than B&N etc. then that *should* tell me that, yes, the covers are an issue. If not, well, then I win.

Over the next five days I’ll reveal the new covers, so get ready to be… um… inundated. 😉

Front Cover for Ashes of Deceit – Final Version

After the feedback from the cover debut, I have made some mior adjustments and am happy to say this is the final version:

As you might notice Malick looks a *little* bit eviler around the eyes, but not super evil (as he is not meant to be instantly identifiable as evil and is often described in the book(s) as “serene”.) buuuut for the sake of cover art a little menace is an okay thing. (You may also notice I have udpated the snazzy animation over to the side 😉 Feel free to snag that bad boy by the way and post to your hearts content.)

Also adjusted the tagline position a bit too.
