Hello! This is Katelina from Joleene Naylor’s Amaranthine series. I’d like to announce that the (un) awaited Special Editions Vols I and II are finally available everywhere. And here to tell us more about them is my author!

*Verchiel strolls in* Um, that’s a no go. Our amazing author is too busy.

Katelina: You’re joking.  What am I supposed to do with the rest of this post? I guess that’s it folks. Here are the links to grab your own copies of the Special Editions:

Amaranthine Special Edition Vol I:

paperback
Amazon Kindle
B&N Nook
Smashwords
Sony ebook

Amaranthine Special Edition Vol II:

.

paperback
Amazon Kindle
B&N Nook
Smashwords
Sony ebook

Verchiel: Wait, wait. What’s that? It doesn’t make people want to check it out. You have to tell them why they want to. You have to make them excited! Offer them some cookies, some punch, maybe a balloon!

K: You go ahead. besides, why do they want to check the Special Editions out? They probably already have the books, so why buy them again?

V: That’s true. Though there is a bunch of bonus content, like character artwork, flash fiction, links to downloadable content, deleted scenes and character interviews.

K: You mean those interviews where the blog readers asked us questions?

V: Those are the ones. Jo tidied them up a bit, but they’re basically the same. So for all those who asked questions, if you’d like to see your name in print…

K: And what deleted scenes?

V: You know, the Lost Chapters from Legacy of Ghosts. Geeze, where have you been?

K: And character artwork? that’s weak.

V: Not at all. Some of it is new, and the Executioner gallery has never been published anywhere before except those cool cards she gave away to three people.

K: Fine, so there’s a little bit of bonus content. Still not worth buying it.

V: You’re a tightwad. But fine, if someone already owns them then maybe it’s not worth it. What if they don’t, though  What if they’ve put off buying the ebooks, or even the paperbacks? I’ve done the math an it’s cheaper to buy the two special editions than it is to buy all four paperbacks. And as for the ebooks it works out to the same price for the Special Editions as buying all four individually, and there’s still bonus features. You can’t get better than that. And they make the perfect gift! What could be better than two books in one? Especially when I’m in them?

K: How about two books you’re NOT in? I just don’t see the point in combining them, except to give them shiny new covers without admitting that her old covers need some work.

V: You’re pretty negative when it comes to our wonderful author, aren’t you? The point is to put them together the way they were meant to be. If you remember, there were originally two loooooong books she split into four.

K: Whatever you say. Since you seem so enthusiastic about this, you finish the post up. I’m going to go do something more interesting like take a bath or watch paint dry. It’s not like our author cared enough to even show.

V: She’s very busy this month.

K: Yeah, writing more horrible crap happening to me. Oh boy, oh boy. Seriously, have fun. *leaves*

V: You’ll have to excuse her, dear readers. I’m afraid she’s a little bitter right now because… well, no spoilers, but let’s say Munich isn’t working out like she planned. In the meantime, if you haven’t completed your Amaranthine collection, or if you’re a new reader, or if you’re looking for the perfect gift, check out these links and snag your copies today!

A New Release from LC Cooper – Man Cave

As a fan of Ms. Cooper’s work, I had to share this with you

A follower and an introvert, Adam is content accepting whatever life throws at him. Eric, Adam’s gregarious best friend, talks Adam into a different birthday present, one that proves to be more than a distraction from life’s dramas. Although seasoned outdoorsmen, neither man is prepared for what they uncover.

Who can help them? Who can they trust? Frequent dangers they face possess the power to consume their very souls. Adam and Eric must grow together if they are to survive. Will Adam become the man he only dreamed of being? If not, what awaits them in “Man Cave” will most certainly destroy them.

You can read it for free on her blog (links to follow) or for 2.99 you can download it from Smashwords to your device of choice and not be chained to the computer to read it.

Another one for my TBR list!

UK Daily Cheap Reads

If you’re looking for free or cheap Kindle reads on Amazon UK then look no further than http://dailycheapreads.co.uk/ . In May the focus was on UK Indy authors, but with June here it’s now a mixed bag again – including Shades of Gray which will be featured there today .

You don’t just have to be in the UK to use the site. Non UK residents can always copy the titles down and do a manual search on Amazon.com for them. As the site says, not all are free or discounted across all geographical locations, and some promotional prices expire, so make sure you check the price before you download.

Happy Reading!

Spring Cleaning

In the last couple of days I’ve done some blog spring cleaning (yes, it’s the only spring cleaning I plan to do, so if you’re looking for a house to clean I have one for you. 😉 ). Anyway, I thought I’d take a moment and share my efforts.

*tour guide voice*

If you will look at the top of the page you will see a handy little row of links. Some of those links have always been there, such as the About Joleene Naylor , More Indie Authors and the All My Projects , though they got a bit of a dusting off.

A couple of the links up there are new, however. The Free & Cheap Resources is exactly that; a list of places to get free or cheap stock photos, illustrations, video clips, sound clips, music and more. Why would you want that stuff? For book covers, book illustrations, book trailers, websites, etc.

For Links You Should Know I took that long, long list of links that was cluttering the sidebar to the right and moved them all to a page instead. If I don’t have your link and you’d like me to add it drop me a line (email address is on my About page) or leave a comment.

And now if you will divert your attention to the right you will see some more tidying has occurred. You might notice the super spiffy little heading graphics? I think they’re much easier to see than the font that comes with this theme (and though I did consider swapping themes, I rejected it because I like this one!) The links  are still pretty much the same, though; there’s my books, the Vampire Morsels that have made it to Smashwords (Hopefully I will get it in gear and get the rest there!) , tags-n- banners, about me, the cool post calendar and a truncated list of links.

As for my other blogs, the most exiting thing is that I’ve added a feedburner subscription box to my From the Shadows blogspot blog. This lets you sign up for email notifications of the blog. Though some people swear by RSS, I like the mail subscriptions better because the last thing i need is another place I have to check! I also added my books to the sidebar and tidied links and such.

And on the Ramblings from the Darkness I took out the “about this blog” and replaced it with “13 Questions” that I get asked regularly.

The Pen Name:

You might remember that I ran a poll about what pen name to use on my children’s books. They were originally written and illustrated several years ago (like ten maybe?) but I thought I’d share them on smashwords as freebies. It was close, but when all was said and done Roey Harris won. I finally got the Smashwords account set up and the first book, Moving Day, uploaded.  I need to transfer The Do-Nothing Day over, still (though it got a brand new cover).

What’s Next?

That’s the Question, isn’t it? I’m going to continue to do Six Sentence Sunday and we have a few more Tuesdays with Terry (five I believe), and I am going to get back to the vampire morsels I hope. (I have Claudius started as I type this!). Other than that, I have some random thoughts, but I want to know what you guys are interested in seeing.  More articles on self publishing topics? How to topics? A weekly fun video? Interviews with characters from other books? Interviews with other indy authors?  More random vampire coverage? Or is there something else you’d like to see? Drop a comment and let me know!

It’s Party Time!

How do you play? It’s simple! Visit Edie’s blog at http://edieramer.com/blog/ , check out the excerpt(s) of your choice and leave a comment for a chance to win. It couldn’t be easier! And, participants who comment on all 16 entries will be entered to win more free books!

Hope to see you there!

Help me choose a Pen Name

If you’ve ever visited my Smashwords author page, you might have noticed a book called The Do-Nothing Day that is about snuggly teddy bears and written for a target audience of four year olds. It was written and illustrated in roughly 2001, along with ten others, and they have since darkened my hard drive. Though, I originally uploaded it so people with questions could see what Smashwords books with images looked like, the book has gotten enough downloads that I’ve decided to upload the other ten as well. However, I’m not so sure that mixing children’s books and adult books is wise.

My vampire books aren’t erotica, but there’s enough of a difference that I wouldn’t want someone to judge either set of books based on the other. I already have enough of a fight convincing people that my vampires are not YA (thanks again, Twilight), and mixing kiddie books into my account isn’t going to help. But, I don’t see why someone shouldn’t be enjoying them. They are pretty cute, after all.

So, now comes the fun, interactive part of the blog where you get to cast your votes on what my pen name should be! Leave your vote in the comments or, if you have a better suggestion, then leave it, too. I’ll probably cross post this all over, but in the end I’ll compile them all together and whatever wins is the name I will use.

  • J. Harris-Naylor
  • J.R. Harris
  • Roey Harris
  • Sintiel Quen
  • Nic Constantinescu
  • Alex Marshall

All the names come from various things I’ve done over the years.  I could give you lengthy explanations, but I’ll refrain. I will say one of them is elvish.

Look forward to seeing what everyone thinks!

Special Sale and Fun Videos!

Yeah, it’s a “two fer'” post.

First I want to announce the exciting news that Shades of Gray, previously $11.00 in paper back, is now $7.50.

That's a $3.50 savings!!

GET IT HERE

Yeah, this is that “Pro plan” I talked about, though I opted out of the extended distribution for the moment because it means I’d have to leave the price at $10.50. And,  where as it does make the books available to book stores such as Barnes and Noble or Borders, the only way my book would be there is if someone walked in, went to the counter and said, “Hey, can I get Shades of Gray by Joleene Naylor?” And if they’re doing that, then there’s a good chance that they could have just gotten the book online. In the end, with shipping and handling, they probably pay the same amount, and have it there in the same amount of time, except that they then have to go back to the bookstore to pick the book up, vs having it dropped off at their door.

I don’t know.  I might enable it later, meaning that this $7.50 thing may not be around forever. So, if you haven’t got the paper back yet, now’s the time to do it.

On a side note, I’m still waiting for the prize books to arrive. They’re supposed to be here no later than Monday, which means Wednesday for us in hicksville, so cross your fingers.

And now for the videos I promised!

I found these from random postings on the CPC Vampire vs Zombie Challenge and wanted to share them. The first one is short but hilarious:

And here’s another spoof/parody that gave me a giggle:

And as a bonus, this one isn’t exactly vampire related, but it was catchy and amused me:

  • Tales of the Executioners

Short stories from the world of Amaranthine; a universe of blood and darkness where vampires don't sparkle and night is eternal. Each is about a member of the Executioners squad; the special vampire "police" force. Members both past and present share stories of assignments, origins, and more.

Dark, light, love, laughter, death...you never know what you'll find in the shadows.
