Clash of Legends’ First Review

front-coverDM Yates, author of the Always series (I’m calling it that, I’m not sure what she calls it, but they’re great books), was kind enough to post a review of Clash of Legends on her blog.

Check it out, tell her hello, and be sure to look up the other book she mentions, Kay Kauffman’s A Song for All Seasons, which is also a new release. And be sure to look up Donna’s series!

Collector Edition Paper Back Cover

I love the “new” covers, but there are readers who started their collection when I had the old covers. The white covers that had hand drawn art work. I’ve been asked if Clash of Legends will have one of these, and the answer is yes. There will be a collector’s edition. I don’t know what extra content will be in it (besides the novel) but I’ll find something to stick in there. And, of course, it will have the old-style cover.

Tada.

collector's edition
For those who may have missed previous books and are looking for this cover style, there is currently a collector’s edition for Shades of Gray (book 1) and Children of Shadows (book 6). The rest are coming as soon as I get a chance. If you need a particular one let me know and it will get top priority.

And that’s all for now. Unfortunately there is no way to pre-order paperbacks, but if you’d like to order yourselves an ebook copy the links are below.

FRONT COVER

The explosive seventh installment in the Amaranthine series brings blood, ruin, despair, and hope – for even in the darkest night there is still a moon.

After the battle in Indonesia. Katelina wakes in Samael’s domain. Though her memories are tattered, she knows someone is missing: Jorick.

Her vampire lover gathers an army to save her from the ancient, but his master Malick interferes. For five hundred years Malick has manipulated and ruined Jorick’s life. When he leaves Katelina broken and bleeding in the bowels of his oasis, it’s the final straw.

While Malick sets up his glorious war with a living legend, Jorick plans the ultimate taboo: to kill his master. He’s tried before and failed. Will this be different, or will he and Katelina be crushed in the carnage of a greater battle, between two whose blood goes back millennia?

Clash of Legends Blurb

FRONT COVER

Clash of Legends has been sent to all the beta readers via Facebook (yay!) and my poor brother is up to his eyeballs in it at the moment, so time for me to sit back, relax, and… ha! Time to get artwork done, get the pre-order versions uploaded, update the website, write the blurb…

I’ll stop there, but you don’t have to. Take a look at the blurb and let me know what you think.

From the Cutting Room Floor

I’m editing Clash of Legends and as I go things get cut. Here’s the first major chunk to get removed. There’s no spoilers, but there IS adult language.

After several minutes of driving over what felt like boulders, the truck pulled to a stop.

Micah threw his cards on the floor and stood. “I’m gonna go find out what the fuck is going on.”

He threw back the cover and hopped out of the truck. Katelina only hesitated a second before she followed him.

They’d been right about the terrain; instead of a road they were on a snowy, rocky patch of ground. She could hear the sound of a car in the distance, probably the highway they should have been on.

She rounded the truck as Micah threw opened the driver’s door. “What the hell?”

Oren looked up from the map spread over the steering wheel. “I have enough to deal with without your interference!”

Katelina came to a stop behind the bald vampire and looked past Torina’s angry face to Jorick’s. “What’s going on?”

“We’re lost,” Torina said angrily. “I told him we needed to turn left.”

“Shut up!” Oren shouted. He grabbed the map and waved it around. “Even if I could speak Chinese this thing wouldn’t make any sense! This says there is a road right here, but do you see a road? Do you? No!”

Micah jerked the map from his hands and studied it. “Is this where we’re supposed to be?” He jabbed an airplane symbol on the map

“No! That’s on the other side of China!” Oren jerked the map out of his hands.

“Well excuse me all to hell mister sunshine! Why don’t we just fucking turn around?”

“Obviously we’re going to have to,” Torina said. “And then turn Left.”

“Fine,” Oren snapped and ground the truck into gear. “Get back in the truck or stay behind.”

A bit of fun but it serves no plot purpose. Now back to chopping!

Interview at Book Goodies!

Who likes author interviews? Me for one, and here’s hoping you do too, because Book Goodies was kind enough to post an interview with yours truly. They had some great questions, like:

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it’s only going to get harder from here. Indie publishing is like the gold rush in California. At first it’s just a few hardy pioneers who govern themselves, then a few strike it big, hundreds rush in to join, lawlessness ensues, brawls in the streets, bad grammar, terrible punctuation, and the citizens – the readers – start to complain, they start to say “We need a Sheriff to come in here and tell all these rough and tough author types to simmer down and quit writing this drivel!” And so the gate keepers start. We’ve already seen Amazon’s on again off again policy against erotica. But I think the first step towards permanent gate-keeping will be quality; typos and such. Then it will slowly evolve until the indie publishers – mosty Amazon, I think – become the new gatekeepers. Law and Order is restored and the whole place becomes “respectable” with cookie cutter books cooling on windowsills and children frolicking across the electronic pages of more of the same old-same old drivel. Because the wild west can’t last forever; people just can’t stand that kind of freedom.

Book 7 Update – #joissorry

(get your own cool logo from http://cooltext.com/)

Just as Shia LaBeouf was sorry, so am I. No, not for plagiarism or whatever he was supposed to be apologizing for. I’m sorry for the delay in the seventh book, Clash of Legends.  I promised that it would be written, edited, formatted and published by next week only… it’s not going to be. I could write a long post detailing everything, but suffice to say there were some unplanned complications and my schedule fell behind. Three months behind.

Clash of Legends will be released in March, if I have to hand out copies myself. BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t find out some of what happens next RIGHT NOW. I know the agony of waiting to find out the end of the cliff hanger, and so I am releasing special preview copies of the first three chapters of Clash of Legends now – three months early – in the hope it will help tide you over. And I promise THIS doesn’t end with a cliffhanger.

If you’d like to get the pre-released chapters, please sign up for the mailing list so I can let you know when the pre-orders start for the finished product. (Pre-orders will be at Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, Apple, and Amazon! Yay!)

EDIT: The form does not seem to be working. I have contacted Mail Chimp. In the meantime, please sign up at http://eepurl.com/943g5

I should add that you have to CONFIRM the subscription by clicking the link they send you in your email and then you’ll get an automated message that has a link to the file download in it.

If you have any problems please let me know, and again, I’m so sorry for the delay.

Four Question Blog Tag

I was tagged by the prolific Barbara G Tarn – and when I say prolific I mean it. you should SEE the list of books she has out. Seriously. I haven’t managed to find time to read even half I bet. Yeesh! But that doesn’t mean YOU shouldn’t try. Seriously, check it out! http://creativebarbwire.wordpress.com

And now for the questions:

Question 1: What am I working on?

Clash of Legends – book seven in the Amaranthine series. I don’t have a nice synopsis written up because I’m only on chapter seven so I don’t know what is going to happen yet, but expect a few major changes for some of the characters. I think.

Question 2: How does my work differ to others of its genre?

There are vampire but it’s not YA. No one sparkles. There’s romance, but it’s not the number one focal point. There is fighting and gore and things blowing up ala an action movie, but the main character is a woman who is NOT a kick-ass heroine… So it’s a hard sell/tiny corner niche series. If I ever get time on my hands I’ll turn it into a manga.

Question 3: Why do I write/create what I do?

I write what I like. Hopefully other people like it too.

Question 4: How does your writing/creating process work?

It’s different for every book. This one doesn’t appear to want to be written in order. I have been writing a scene, then back tracking to fill in the things that go between it and the last scene and then editing the initial scene to fit with the stuff that went in between – it’s very timey-wimey for some reason.

I had a list of people to tag but after finding out that one of them passed away I am kind of in a bleh space, so if you’re reading this and would like to do it please take the tag and run with it. All my author friends have interesting WIPs worth sharing.
