Hello! My name is Katelina, and welcome to Weekend Character Interviews. Using state of the art-mumbo-jumbo author magic, Jo has temporarily bent the laws of fictional space and time to allow various literary universes to converge long enough for me to ask different characters a few questions. Since I spend a lot of time in the Amaranthine series quizzing vampires on what they’re doing, where they’re going and why, Jo thought I would be the perfect interviewer.
Today we are interviewing Lanie Carmichael from MK Schiller’s Contemporary/Erotic novel The Do-Over. (This is part of a blog tour, so be sure to check the bottom of this post for a giveaway!)
Katelina: Hello, Lanie! Could you tell the folks reading this at home a little about yourself?
Lanie: I have long auburn colored hair that I always wear up, glasses, and hazel eyes. Some may describe me as frumpy.
K: Let’s do a few more “getting to know you” questions. Like… what’s your favorite tv show?
L: I know it sounds strange, but I’ve always enjoyed watching infomercials. I’m lonely and most TV shows are talking at you, but when you watch an infomercial, it’s as if they are talking to you. I also love football, especially if the Bears are playing.
K: My uncle was a Bear’s fan, too, though I’m not much into sports. Now movies, that’s another story. What’s your favorite movie?
L: Dirty Dancing. I love Patrick Swayze. I also loved The Breakfast Club because it makes me wish for detention!
K: Ha ha! If detention was really like that I’d have gone for it, too. How about your favorite food?
L: Ice cream. Kyle buys popsicles, but they’re the poor man’s ice cream.
K: Okay, now I have to ask, who is Kyle?
L: Kyle Manchester was just supposed to be a prop. Everything I knew about him spelled trouble. He is a manwhore, fickle, and selfish, but he’s also an ambitious journalist. I thought he’d help me in my goal to land Brad, but the more time I spend with him, the more I question my own motives.
K: Ah! That sounds like the beginning of a good story already! Even though it’s a romance, I know there’s still conflict. For lack of a better word, who are your enemies?
L: They are not really my enemy, but my sister Cassie and mother have never been supportive of me. They can be degrading and mean at times, but I decided a long time ago that their personalities will never change.
K: It sucks when someone else tries to take away your happiness.
L: Luckily, I start to realize all the things I thought were impossible for someone like me are not. I see that I am a beautiful woman and that I deserve happiness.
K: I’m glad to hear it! I’d guess that’s probably the big challenge in your story?
L: Actually, it’s my growing feelings for Kyle. They confuse me because I decided what I wanted and he wasn’t it. Yet, why is it he makes me laugh and…moan like no one else?
K: Oh! Nice! I think I can guess *cough*cough*Moving on, what is the one thing you think has heled to shape your personality?
L: Can’t answer this without giving too much away.
K: Now I really am curious! But we’re running out of time, so real quick, What is the one thing you want the most in the whole world?
L: I thought it was to be different from my family, but as I progress and spend more time with Kyle, I think it’s to always feel the joy and laughter he brings into my life.
K: If you could say one thing to your readers, what would it be?
L: I’ve had some horrible things happen to me. I live my life with a stringent set of rules I designed. But I am a strong, smart woman.
K: And lastly, if you could say one thing to your author, what would it be?
L: More sex scenes please! Oh and write a sequel. There’s more happily ever after for me still.
K: Thanks so much to Lainie for stopping in! She and her author, MK Schiller, are on tour right now. So check out the other stops!
Synopsis:
Arrogant womanizer Kyle Manchester hates blind dates, however, when best friend, Brad calls in a favor, insisting Kyle take out his girlfriend’s sister, Kyle reluctantly agrees. Attorney Lanie Carmichael’s appearance is no surprise. She is dowdy, awkward, and dressed in so many layers she resembles a wedding cake, but not in an edible way. Her brazen attitude though, astonishes him, especially when she explains she has no interest in gorgeous Kyle. Lanie Carmichael is in love with Brad, and wants Kyle’s assistance in winning his best friend’s heart.
Kyle gradually accepts, justifying that the mystery of Lanie has sparked his natural, thirsty curiosity. As an ambitious journalist, he also can’t resist the Pulitzer worthy scoop she offers him. However, as Lanie sheds more layers, both emotionally and physically, Kyle begins to examine his life choices, and his true feelings for this enigmatic girl. With Kyle’s support, Lanie begins to unravel the secrets of her past, and the deep pain that has quietly defined her life. As they each learn more about themselves and each other, both question how a relationship built on fraudulent lies between two broken people could ever survive.

About the Author:
This is my debut novel, and I’m thrilled to share it with you. I describe myself as a hopeless romantic in a hopelessly pragmatic world. By day, I don a magic cape, calculator (sometimes an abacus), and an assortment of gel pens for my work in the world of finance. But by night, I sit by the warm glow of my computer monitor, and think of stories that will warm the heart, and cheer the soul.
There is nothing better than the intimate journey and ultimate satisfaction that only a swoon-worthy romance can provide, especially if there are a few laughs along the way. Although writing is my passion, I am a reader first and enjoy nothing more than curling up with a good book and some tasty Italian (the food, of course!). I hope you will enjoy my work and please drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.
