Interview with Jorick: Part 1

amaranthine interviews

Hello! And welcome to the weekend Amaranthine interviews where YOU ask the questions!

In honor of the new book, I’m going to give everyone else some time off and conduct these interviews myself. See what a good author I am?

02-jorickJo: Today we have Jorick on the chopping block – I mean in the hot seat. We have a LOT of questions for him, so I’m going to have to break this up into two interviews. What follows is part one, and is still long, so I will try to keep his answers brief. Truthfully, that shouldn’t be hard considering how uncooperative he is.

Jorick: I’d hardly call myself uncooperative. They just usually ask…uncomfortable questions.

Jo: They ask good questions. Anyway, let’s get to it. Matthew asks: Where and what year were you born in?

J: That’s easy enough. I was born in 1533 in the Netherlands.

Jo: Okay.  Steve asks: Where did you get that name? Couldn’t you change it?

J: My parents gave it to me. I could change it, I suppose. Many do change their names when they are turned – symbolic of their new life – but I saw no reason for it.

Jo: Amber asks: Jorick, have you, ever since you’ve been turned, thought about finding a cure? Or something to reverse vampirism (if possible)?

J: No, not at all. I won’t bother lying, I’m happy with immortality. I’m not interested in a mortal death – or any kind of death for that matter.

Jo: Despite all your crap about lost souls?

J: *shrugs* Nothing is free. Immortality comes with a price. I haven’t complained about it, simply stated it as a fact.

Jo: You’re being very zen today. All right, Jennifer asks: Do you like being a vampire? What do you like most and least about it?

J: Yes, I like it. I suppose living forever is one of the perks, though when I asked to be turned it wasn’t for the long life, rather the strength. It’s very…reassuring to know that I can handle anyone necessary. As for what I like the least, it would be the inconvenience of the sun. There are many times when I’ve needed to handle things in daylight hours, and a human has not always been available or practical as an emissary. I do envy the Twilight vampires in that regard.

sparkle jorickJo: Do you? You didn’t feel that way when I made you sparkle.

J: Very funny. I said in that one regard.

Jo: Juli asks: You’ve lived a long and interesting existence. Would you mind naming one of your most memorable historical events that you’ve had the pleasure of being witness to? Even if it wasn’t a personal observation, I’d still be interested in hearing your point of view.

J: Hmmmmm. What you would call the Eighty Years War would be the most memorable on a personal level, though I was only present until 1568, when I left with Malick…but I don’t think my author will allow me to discuss that, as I get quite…passionate is a polite word. The American Civil War is probably the most modern occurrence that effected me in any way, though by then Velnya and I had moved to the Nebraska territory. I was often on assignments and wanted to be sure she would not be left alone in a war zone, and Nebraska seemed a safe, if barren, place for her. I was wrong, of course. I did have some assignment in the south where I had run ins with the hostilities. Of modern affairs, World War I and World War II were little more than snatches on a radio to me, and that was when I bothered to listen. I did watch the moon landing – I was in the house in Maine by then and at the time I had a small television. Of course, the landing was broadcast in the daytime, so it meant rising early. I was a little disappointed, as it was nothing like the Jules Verne-style version I had imagined.

Jo: I’m going to stop you right there. Donna says: Why don’t you tell us more about your time in Virginia – not about Oren, not about Velnya, but all about you? Tell your author to write a short story on that.

jesslynn

Jorick guest stars in Oren and Jesslynn’s FREE origin story.

J: There’s not really much to tell. Malick was…overbearing to say the least and I was tired of being under his thumb, so in 1814 I moved farther away. I took the plantation from a man who did not deserve it, and to be truthful was gone much of the time on assignments. Eventually it became impossible to maintain the household so I surrendered and moved back to Massachusetts where The Guild was located at the time. As for my author and a short story, I think she suffers from political correctness syndrome. As I said I took the plantation; slaves and all. Though I treated them far better than their previous master, at the same time I did not free them, nor do I apologize for the fact. Vampires still have slaves; human slaves and immortal slaves. I don’t apologize for those, either. It is as it is. But, it makes my author uncomfortable, I think, just as she refused to point out that Arowenia was really Claudius’ half-sister. As for Claudius and Arowenia, I’m not sure that either of them were aware of it, but my author certainly is.

Jo: That’s enough from you. Shaun wants to know: Jorick whom is your most feared enemy?

J: I fear no one. *Rolls eyes as Jo glares at him* I don’t. I was…concerned slightly about facing Malick because he is my master, and there is a master/fledgling connection, but I did not fear him, rather that I would be weak and fail to exact my revenge.

Jo: So in the end your most feared enemy is not a who, but a what: Your own weakness. *Jorick glares and Jo snickers* Start telling people about what *I* think, will you? Onwards. Teresa asks: What is your favorite book and why?

J: A good question, though it’s hard to choose a single book. Sir Author Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories are excellent. Those books about the boy wizard -while the prose are not amazing, the stories were entertaining. Dickens is always good. Let’s see. John Grisham, James Fenimore Cooper, Hemmingway has his merits, Victor Hugo, Vladimir Nabokov, Byron. Shakespeare is classic, and of course there’s Poe, “It was many and many a year ago, in a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know by the name of Annabell Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought than to love and be loved by me.”

Jo: Sherry asks: Can you really give up the Executioners?

J: Yes. I did so before, and I will be happy to do it again. Despite the assumption that I can’t “keep my nose out of things”, I most certainly can and, should I choose to get involved, I don’t need The Guild’s backing to do so.

alexander

Jorick gets a cameo in Alexander, a FREE short story.

Jo: You are a bit conceited, aren’t you? Steve asks: Would it be possible for you to play a few tricks or have a joke, or laugh uproariously at something? What tickles your funny bone apart from satisfaction at seeing Micah in the poo?

J: Seeing Micah – or the redheaded idiot, or any number of others – suffer would no doubt elicit a great deal of amusement. Beyond that, I find many things funny. Yogi bear, for instance, is amusing, as were some of the early television shows. Red Skelton, Lucile Ball – when she and Ethel work in the chocolate factory, for example. I enjoyed the banter on Star Trek, especially between Spock and the doctor. My television broke in the seventies, and since programming had gone south I didn’t bother having it repaired, so I don’t have any “more modern” examples…MAD magazine gave me a chuckle at one time, but like TV it has also lost its humor. It’s the world that has forgotten how to be funny rather than I who have lost my sense of humor.

Jo: Maegan wants to know: Jorick, what is the most fascinating thing about Katelina to you? What is the most annoying?

J: Her contradictions are probably the most intriguing. One moment she is blood thirsty, the next she screams about peace (which is a contradiction itself as peace cannot be achieved by screaming). In some things she is incredibly naive, while in other things she is worldly and wise. As for the most annoying…her contradictions. One minute going to war is the right response, and the next she’s angry that I killed someone… I think you understand.

Jo: Yes, you’re a lunatic. Moving on. Dawn asks: In book 2 when you tried to send Katelina home do you think you would have stayed away or would you have gone to check up on her?

J: *looks uncomfortable* I’d have respected her choice.

Jo: Liar. You’d have moped briefly, then gone roaring back to Ohio. You still had the apartment paid up, and you’d have moved back in. When you realized she didn’t live across the street anymore you’d have stalked her mother’s house, and eventually followed her home. You’d have then hung around her for awhile, moaning to yourself silently and playing the martyr until you got tired of that, then you’d have manned up, knocked on the door, and told her to grow up and pack her things.

J: Which of us are being interviewed?

Jo: At this point? No one because we’re going to end it here and pick this up next week.  I do have a couple of follow up questions for Samael and Verchiel that we’re going to throw in here.

18-verchielVerchiel: Sounds fun! What do you have for me?

Jo: From Donna: How can you stand working with moody Jorick?

V: Hello, Donna! *looks at Jorick* Eh, he’s not too bad. He’s more bark than bite.

Jo: And also from Donna: admit it. You love Katelina.

J: That’s not a question!

V: *looks at Jorick* Technically he’s right, it’s a statement, but there’s no need to be picky about it. Sure. I love everyone. I’m a good guy like that.

35-samaelJo: Let’s just move on to Samael. Also from Donna:  Are you sorry you were awakened?

Samael: Greetings. As to the question, no. I have waited uncounted years for this moment and at last it is within my grasp.

Jo: I suspected that would be your answer. A final question, Steve asks: What do you do to humans who don’t get your name right? Especially what do you do after you suck their blood.

S: I have no care for them, or what they call me. A name means nothing; it is only so many sounds – a label so that feeble minds can comprehend the incomprehensible, for what is more incomprehensible than an individual, a living being? As to what I do once I have drained them, I dispose of the vessel if necessary. However it is not always necessary for me to empty a mortal, as older vampires need less blood as they age.

Jo: And I think that wraps us up for this week. Tune in next week for Jorick’s Interview Part 2, where the questions are even tougher!

J: Joy.

Jo: And of course, I can’t let him have the last word, so thanks for stopping in! In case you missed it, Book Born – the awesome facebook group – is hosting a day with Joleene Naylor this Thursday. Check out my blog post for all the details.

Jorick and The Sheep

sheep

stolen from I Smell Sheep

Jorick is visiting the I Smell Sheep blog today to talk about the new book, Heart of the Raven,  and about the plans we have for the next book. I’m sure they’re going to have a lovely time… Hmmm. Maybe I should have written him a script? He does have a habit of getting distracted. Well, not distracted so much as going off on a tangent that usually involves the redheaded idiot and what a bad writer I am and… Oh dear. I don’t think I should have let him go unsupervised. I better get over there and make sure he stays on topic.

Hope to see you there!

And be sure to enter to win some cool Sunday Swag, too!signature for white

Jorick & Katelina: Chapter 1 of Heart of the Raven

jorickkatelina

An Excerpt of Chapter One from Heart of the Raven:

Katelina stared at the sandwich as though it were an enemy. The limp tomato stared back from between layers of stale bread and suspicious lunchmeat. It was a clash of wills, and sadly the wilted lettuce won.

She tossed the sandwich on the coffee table and leaned back on the couch with a groan. It had been three days since the vampires’ underground Citadel had been attacked and the sixth floor, home to the handful of humans who lived there, had been decimated. Though many repairs had been made, the human amenities were still in shambles. Jorick had done the best he could, but the only available food was several crates of premade sandwiches.

Jorick. Boyfriend. Significant other. No label really fit the vampire but, for better or worse, she was in love with him – and she was supposed to meet him outside the audience chamber in a few minutes.

With a resigned sigh, she ate the limp sandwich in three bites, gave her long blonde hair a final pat, and charged out of the apartment and into the black carpeted corridor of the exclusive Executioners’ block. Like a private building, one had to have a special keycard to get in and out of the living area.

Outside was a public corridor. Largely undamaged, the hallway was bordered by hotel-like doors that gave way to mall style entertainment: a spa, an arcade and a movie theater. Vampires, already bored with the events of two days ago, lounged, and chatted as if it was just another day. Most ignored Katelina as she walked past.

The hair stood up on the back of her neck and Katelina hurried past them. Despite their indifference, any one of them could kill her without a second thought. Or maybe not. After all, she’d killed her share of vampires.

The thought squared her shoulders and she climbed in the elevator with a group of them. In the close quarters her courage waned. Luckily, the trip to the third floor was short. She exited quickly and turned for the audience chamber, a sense of dread in her stomach. She knew Jorick would be there, but it was little comfort. She still remembered the trial that had left Jorick sentenced to work as an Executioner, a member of The Guild’s “police squad”.

That had been Malick’s idea. Just thinking of his name was enough to make Katelina shiver. The former head of The Guild, the last time she’d seen him, he’d marched with his faithful underlings over a carpet of corpses. Worse than the sound of popping bones had been Malick’s face. Serene and gentle, like a loving father, even as he killed those he was supposed to protect.

The huge polished doors of the audience chamber loomed ahead of her, fronted by a gray suited guard, but no Jorick. She was only two minutes late. Surely he hadn’t left?

The guard eyed her with the general disdain most vampires showed. “Can I help you?”

Her first instinct was to ignore him, but she needed information. “I was sent for by Jorick, the Executioner.” It was a twist of the truth, and the title was unnecessary, but she enjoyed the way the guard’s face paled.

“They’re, uh, they’re still in session. I suppose you had better go in.”

It was her turn to falter. The last thing she wanted to do was face the remaining Executioners en masse, but it was that or pull up a bench across the hall and wither under the guard’s annoyingly superior gaze.

With a nod, she motioned to the door.

The guard opened it easily, though it weighed more than she could have moved. She swallowed her nervousness in a lump that tasted like the dried out sandwich, and marched inside.

The room was large and round, ringed by pillars and alcoves with tapestries. A crack in the vaulted ceiling hinted at the three day old battle, but everything else looked as it had the last time she’d been there. A red rug cut up the center of the room, bordered on either side by a haphazard arrangement of tables. A small cluster of chairs had been arranged to form three jagged rows. Vampires in black and silver uniforms, members of the greater guard, sat in them and stared with hopeful interest at the raised dais at the far end of the room.

Five thrones sat on the platform, meant for the members of the High Council. Above them, where the golden eye used to hang, a symbol of Malick’s power, a silver dragon winked and caught the light. No doubt it symbolized the new leadership of The Guild.

Beneath the new artwork sat the master himself, Eileifr, with long, braided blond hair and a bristling beard. Though his Nordic features were composed, the air around him seemed to crackle. Without Malick’s overwhelming presence it was suddenly obvious how terrifying Eileifr really was.

Before the platform was a table, and the remaining nine Executioners sat around it, dressed in black with silver medallions hanging around their necks; the symbol of their office. Katelina recognized them all, but only one held her attention. Jorick read a piece of paper, boredom on his face. His long black hair fell around his shoulders in a cascade of silky darkness and his pale skin gleamed like perfect marble in the light from the chandeliers. As if he sensed her scrutiny, he looked up, surprise in his dark eyes. Katelina met them; blue sky clashing with night. He cocked an eyebrow and then, as if he’d seen the answer in her mind, motioned her to wait out of the way.

He wasn’t the only one to notice her. An Executioner with crayon colored red hair also caught her attention. He offered her a fanged smile and a cheery wave. She gave him a scowl, then purposefully looked away and moved to an empty chair on the other side of the room.

Verchiel. How could he expect her to return his greeting? She and Jorick had fought over her almost-friendship with the crazy redhead, only for her to find out that he wasn’t her friend at all. He was only watching her on Malick’s orders. Why hadn’t Jorick warned her?

He did, her thoughts whispered back. But you didn’t listen.

Surrounded by vampires with various mental abilities, Katelina wasn’t sure if the thought was her own or one of theirs. It didn’t matter. It was right either way.

Heart of the Raven Blurb

double covers

This is the long version. A couple of shorter versions will appear later, though I have to admit that, after having done some research around the web and such, I don’t think those 100 word blurbs are always doing us authors the favors we think they are. There are plenty of complaints out there about book descriptions that are too short…

Katelina has barely recovered from the chaos of Malick’s revolt, yet she and Jorick must go to Munich to testify before the True Council. All hopes of a vacation are dashed when they ‘re assigned an entourage that includes Verchiel, a vampire Katelina never wants to see again.

Her hatred is forgotten when Malick and his henchmen penetrate the stronghold in Munich. Jorick hijacks the trip and diverts them on a quest to reclaim the Heart of the Raven. Said to be the disembodied heart of Lilith, the relic may be more reality than myth, and if it falls into the wrong hands it could have disastrous consequences for the world. Can they reach its hiding place before Malick?

The fifth installment of the Amaranthine series sees Jorick and Katelina draw closer as they surround themselves with their own miniature army and try to outwit the machinations of the ancient master. Katelina grows stronger and learns to stand on her own because there’s no room for the fainthearted in a world where darkness is eternal and the night tastes like blood.

Unedited Snippet Eleven from Book Five

The rough draft is *** DONE *** <—(yes the news is so joyous it deserves all the font embellishments)

It is right now with beta 1 & 2 and then I have to do my first read over, then I will have to see if the other beta readers are ready for it.  I am *hoping* to have it out by the end of February, but that may be pushing it depending on their schedules.

In the meantime, please enjoy a random, unedited snippet from Heart of the Raven:

CONTAINS SPOILERS for Ashes of Deceit. If you haven’t read that book yet, then read at your own risk.

Katelina watched as Neil counted silently on his fingers, undoubtedly trying to figure out who the newcomers could be. Her shoulders tensed as she heard them removing their shoes, and then walking down the corridor. There was no way that this could work out well.

Oren apparently had the same thought because, when he appeared in the doorway and locked eyes with Verchiel, his lips drew back in a snarl and his hands became ready fists at his sides.

Jorick motioned him to relax. “Leave it for now.”

Oren walked inside slowly, his sister right behind him. They took their seats, and Torina struggled with her hemline. Micah and Loren were the last through the door, and both only had eyes for Torina’s exposed thighs.

Verchiel gave the vampiress an appreciative wink and then turned to Oren. “Taking a vacation after all the trouble you caused?”

Oren’s eyes narrowed to slits. “I don’t recall causing ‘trouble’.”

Verchiel snorted. “What do you call that little incident at the citadel?”

“It was war!” Oren cried and slammed his emphatic fist into the padded floor.

At his words, Cyprus suddenly stiffened and comprehension dawned on his face. “You’re Jorick’s missing fledgling!”

“Yes he is,” Jorick answered with annoyance. “But that doesn’t matter right now.”

The Executioner rounded on him. “Of course it does! He’s wanted for questioning concerning the attack that he led!”

“The miscreants have already been dealt with!” Jorick snapped. “They executed the self-described leaders of the covens and released the others!”

“But your fledgling was the real leader,” Cyprus insisted. “The vampire they executed in his place-”

“Is dead just the same,” Jorick finished. “Punishment has been given, an example has been made, it’s finished.”

Cyprus drew himself up. “We have our orders.”

Verchiel grinned. “And if you know what’s good for you you’ll disregard them, unless you want Jorick to turn your head into a lamp.”

Next Big Thing Revisited – Hijacked by Oren

I am taking over this blog

Hello, Oren here. Joleene has been tagged again on the Next Big Thing by Paige Addams and I thought what the heck, everyone else has stolen a day on her blog, so I might as well. Speaking of Paige, if you haven’t checked her blog, you should. It’s paranormal, so you paranormal people will love it.

1) What is the title of your book?

Heart of the Raven – the unfinished saga. I made the last part up, but it seems to fit. Seriously, our author has dragged this out for months.

2) Where did the idea come from for the book?

It’s a series, so she had to write the next one, I guess. But she doesn’t plan things out, or make those professional outlines, she just hacks at the keyboard and plays on FaceSpace or TwitBook or whatever it is. Then she’ll hack a bit more and then wander away again. I think she may be stealing ideas from those sites, then when she’s coasted as far as she can on them, she has to go back and steal more. She’s even been so pathetic that she’s asked us for ideas and we’re supposed to be her characters.

3) What genre does your book fall under?

Sickeningly, I imagine it’s a paranormal romance, just like the others. There’s too much of Jorick and Katelina oozing all over one another for it to be anything of substance.

4) Which actors/actresses would you choose to play your characters in a movie?

I believe this has been done before with the main characters, so I am going to take a moment to introduce you to some of the new ones – as if we needed more! Also, since we all know that the best our author could hope for is hack animation, I am instead choosing “Which animated characters could play the characters in a movie”. Not being a fan of such things, I base this on looks alone.

Cyprus (He’s a new Executioner) played by Cheshire Cat from Are You Alice (we’d have to lob off his ears, though)

Wolfe (He’s one of the German Executioners. I don’t like him.) Socom from Scrapped Princess

Sadihra/Zadihra (Another German Executioner whose name is up for debate) Beatrice ‘Bice’ Castiglioni from Umineko no Naku Koro ni (though she’d have to put a few pounds on)

Maeko (She’s, erm… well… she’s too enthusiastic for my taste) Yuuki Hankusu from Memoria

Hikaru (I’m not entirely sure what he does or who he is except that he’s attached to Maeko) played by  Haji from Blood +

Etsuko (She’s a human that… well, let’s say she’s bothersome) Beniwo Nanatsuki from Caucasus ~Nanatsuki no Nie~

All right, I’m bored with this.

5) How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

She is (supposedly) still plugging away.

6) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I don’t know. It isn’t the sort of thing I read. you’d have to ask Jorick, or Katelina. I imagine she reads trashy vampire books.

7) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Our illustrious author claims that her “fans” are “dying” for it, but I can’t really imagine her having any, so that leaves it down to Verchiel’s petition. Yes, the annoying lunatic actually managed to get a handful of signatures from characters begging for the series to continue. Mainly it’s those she hasn’t tortured enough, yet. Personally, I’ve had my fill and I’m ready to drop out now. I suspect from the looks of things she intends to drag out my torment for some time. Oh joy.

And with that I have completed my amazingly lazy author’s tag. Since I have no idea which of her friends would be suitable targets – I mean, suitable tagees, I shall simply say, If you’re interested then please join in. It’s a lot of… erm… fun. Now If you’ll excuse me, I believe she may actually need me for a scene. (Miracles do happen!)

Unedited Snippet Ten from Book Five

Guess who’s coming to dinner… or whatever they want to call it.

Okay, so it’s December and the book is not done. I lost a lot of time to unexpected house hunting and all the research that goes with an out of state move. However, due to some family issues, I think we’ll be putting any move on hold for awhile, so hopefully I can get this sucker finished!

In the meantime, please enjoy a random, unedited snippet from Heart of the Raven:

CONTAINS SPOILERS for Ashes of Deceit. If you haven’t read that book yet, then read at your own risk.

The ride was mostly quiet. Maeko pointed out a few landmarks but, between the darkness and the tinted windows, Katelina couldn’t see them, so she gave up. It was only as the car drew to a stop that the girl made a soft squealing sound and rubbed her hands together. “I hope you enjoy your surprise, Kate-chan!”

Katelina stiffened and suspicion surged through her. “What surprise?”

“You’ll see!” Maeko chirped as the driver climbed out and opened her door with a bow. “Come, please!”

Katelina slid across the seat and out into the night. They were parked in front of a tall apartment building with wide glass double doors. Maeko led Katelina past the uniformed security men and through a shiny tiled lobby to the elevator. Katelina leaned against the wall, nervous hands concealed in her pockets. “You mentioned a surprise?”

The girl winked and placed a finger to her lips. “Just wait, please!”

The elevator opened on a private, paneled lobby. Katelina had seen enough movies to know they were at the penthouse. The shiny floor and bright lights were a change from the vampire dens she’d experienced before, and it wasn’t a change she was sad about.

She followed Maeko to the door and waited as it was unlocked. Her mind raced as she tried to determine what kind of surprise lay in wait for her. What could the  vampiress have that she’d be surprised to see? Was it even a good surprise?

Inside the door was a corridor and a small entry way where a row of slippers and shoes waited. Katelina took in the odd assortment of footwear. There was a pair of motorcycle boots, a set of sparkly emerald heels, a pair of tennis shoes and-

“Are you following us or what?”

Katelina jolted at the familiar voice and found herself face to face with a bald vampire. The goatee and tribal tattoo on his face gave him the air of an ex-con, and the clothes didn’t help; faded jeans and a tank top. It was –

Who was it?

Sample Sunday: Ashes of Deceit

Amaranthine – the exciting, action packed paranormal series from Joleene Naylor:

Pulled into a world of darkness, Katelina’s fate is intertwined with Jorick, a dark, enigmatic vampire. To stay by his side, she must navigate fields of intrigue, terror and bloodshed as they’re drawn from one vampire war to another. Join Katelina and Jorick in a world where vampires don’t sparkle and night is eternal.

Here’s an excerpt from book 4, Ashes of Deceit:

Katelina woke and blinked groggily. Cold air blew her hair in her face and she made to wipe it away, except that her arms didn’t work right. They weren’t the only thing. Her legs felt like lead and when she moved them nothing happened.

“She’s waking up.”

In her half coherent state it took Katelina a moment to recognize the voice. It was Kioko, the Executioner.

Executioner?

The last several hours crashed over her and she suddenly remembered. As she came to terms with the memories, she sought Jorick and found him, still unconscious, hanging over Ark’s back. She forced her eyes and mind to focus and realized she was on the runway of a rural airport, draped over Kioko’s impatient shoulder. Behind them was a small airplane and above them the sky was black; the stars blotted out by bright ground lights. A chilly mist gave the lights an otherworldly halo and made the air smell like damp, dead grass. Katelina shivered and wondered if she was in Iowa.

Probably, since we’re going to the Citadel.

Just that phrase was enough to fill her with fear. She remembered the last visit and her encounter with Malick, the head of The Guild and Jorick’s ancient master; the way he’d lain her mind bare and probed through it at his leisure. She didn’t think she could do it again.

In Ashes of Deceit Katelina and Jorick must rescue a captured vampire and discover who kidnapped him and why. The truth isn’t easy to find. As Oren’s attack on the Guild draws closer, Jorick and Katelina are led back to the Citadel. When the flames of war ignite, can they rise from the ashes, or will they be consumed?
