The Official (revised) Synopsis for Children of Shadows

ebook front cover

After grueling over it for hours, here, at last, is the official “long” blurb for book 6, Children of Shadows:

EDIT: After some adjustments thanks to Steve’s great suggestions, here’s the new revised version:

The sixth installment of the Amaranthine series pulsates with the dark blood of vampire lore.

The Children of Shadows, a vampire cult not seen for hundreds of years, resurfaces to wage war on the vampire guilds. Led by a familiar face, the cult wreaks havoc while Katelina and Jorick are trapped in Munich’s stronghold. Ume, a mysterious vampiress, who claims to know Verchiel, offers the help of her secret organization. But how are she and Verchiel connected, and can they trust her?

As mysteries are solved, new ones appear. Why have the Children of Shadows returned, and is it really a former ally that leads them, or a look-alike? Jorick and Katelina will have to team up with past companions and new allies if they want to find out the truth.

Legends rise and secrets are revealed in a world where vampires walk, drenched in blood and shadows.

Patrick: The Official Cover & Synopsis (Maybe)

As for the status I am STILL waiting on my slow poke brother, but then I have three betas lined up – YAY!

Okay, so I posted a thumbnail the other day, but it was just a thumbnail and it wasn’t labeled “official”. So, here is the *official* version:

While the tagline is a bit of a spoiler, my thought was, “If you’ve read page one of Shades of Gray you already KNOW he’s dead, so it’s not going to come as a surprise. If you haven’t read Shades of Gray yet then maybe you should…”

Or maybe not. The writing style is different and I’m not one hundred percent sure it’s going to cross over as well. It’s written more like the short stories than the novels.

And on that note, here’s the *official* synopsis (unless I get suggestions and/or randomly change it) :

Before Katelina found love in the arms of her vampire Jorick, there was another man, a human.

When Patrick’s missing brother Michael returns, he brings with him a world of night and blood. Turned into a vampire against his will, Michael is kept as a whipping boy by the coven and begs Patrick to kill his tormentors. Reluctantly, Patrick investigates their creepy mansion. He is captured and claimed as a slave who straddles two worlds: one of light and one of dark.

Hoping to escape their servitude, the brothers find help from the mysterious Jorick, who promises sanctuary if they help destroy the coven. Forced from one unspeakable act to another, Patrick seeks redemption in alcohol, drugs, and the comfortless arms of strangers. When his two worlds collide in a scene of brutal violence, he realizes that he must forsake the light until he is free of the darkness.

Then Patrick meets Katelina. Though he knows he shouldn’t, it isn’t long before he’s falling in love. To be with her, he’s ready to step up his fight for freedom. But, all victories come with a price, and the cost of this one could be his sanity and his very life.

The dark, emotional prequel to Shades of Gray plunges into a black abyss of anger, misery and despair without the promise of a happy ending.  As with all prequels, Patrick is a spoiler-filled look at what came before and just may be the blackest of all the Amaranthine tales.

So what do you think? Love it? Hate it? Too long? Too short? How about the cover? Yes, I like to hear opinions!

I want your opinion….

on my blurb. Yeah, I know, exciting stuff, huh?

Anyway, here it is:

With Kateesha dead, there’s no one to hunt Katelina and Jorick. That means it’s time to face the consequences – in both worlds.

When Katelina accepted her new life of night and vampires, she left behind a worried mother and an abandoned apartment. However, instead of wrapping things up, a trip home starts a chain reaction. First, they meet Verchiel, a strange vampire who seems too eager to befriend them. Then the police arrest Jorick for kidnapping. Even worse, the vampire’s government may want to question Katelina concerning Kateesha’s death.

And they do. Despite Jorick’s best efforts, he and Katelina go from being prisoners of one world to prisoners of another and must go before Malick, the oldest of the vampires and head of The Guild. Does Malick want to punish Katelina for killing Kateesha, or is he after something else? And why does Verchiel keep popping up? What is he up to, and why can’t Jorick read his mind?

In the third installment of the Amaranthine series, events are set into motion that could change both Jorick and Katelina’s lives, if not the world.

That’s the longer version for the back of the book. I’ll have to tighten it up into 80 words or so for other places.

If you’re an Indy author with your first book there’s a tip: always have different length blurbs – have your long one, one that’s around 100 – 80, and one that’s around 50 or so because different people and sites want different things. The more you have ready, the faster you can advertise. I learned the hard way with my first book.

Anyway, let me know what you think. Good? Bad? Too melodramatic? Not melodramatic enough?
