Voting has Commenced

…at the You Gotta Read book trailer contest! There are a lot of good entries, including DM Yates’ trailer for Always (#2) and one which may be familiar to you called Shades of Gray (ironically #3). They could both use a vote if you have a chance (though I believe you can only vote once per ISP address, which screws over people who share internet like me and hubby) so choose wisely. Of course, there are also 18 other great trailers for you to choose from.

Voting ends the 27th, so if you get a chance stop in!

Vampires and… Pot?

I have officially finished Ties of Blood and it is sent off to the editor and to a couple of beta readers. What does that mean? it means I am done for now and need to get caught up on the book covers I have waiting for me to finish. Though I don;t normally post much in here concerning those, I will say that I will no longer be formatting manuscripts for the POD places, nor will I be making wrap around covers anymore (unless you have something commissioned already). These are both too time consuming right now.

Anyway, I am taking a couple weeks to get everything (including my neglected website!) caught up and then I have some very cool ideas for posts and such.  Just bear (not bare – that could be a whole different kind of blog!) with me and things will get more exciting. I promise.

Okay, now that I’ve bored you, here’s a video that was sent to me by Sue – otherwise known as SassySue!

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Ha ha! Run pizza boy, run!

If you guys know of any other great vampire videos feel free to send them in! I always enjoy them!

PS – for fellow WordPress bloggers that want to know HOW I got this video to embed, please check this out – http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/vodpod/ – very handy!!!!!

Interview, Guest Blog & a Video!

Yeah, this post has it all goin’ on! Mainly because I’ve been behind and now have to cram it all into one post. Erm, no, no, I mean, uh, I planned it that way. Yeah. That’s right.

*cough*cough*

Linda S. Prather, author of the Jacody Ives Mysteries, was kind enough to Interview me for her new blog.  And I’m not the only one. She’s on an interviewing roll, including Larry Enright and Al Boudreau.

Reena Jacobs, author of Shadow Cat, was also nice enough to allow me to do a guest post for her blog about turning your eBook cover into  a paperback cover. She is featuring guest posts from authors every week in her Authors Helping Authors series. There’s a lot of good information, there.

And now for the video. It’s not actually a video. I mean it is animated, and you have to hit a play button, but it doesn’t require any sound because it’s actually a collect of vampire jokes that are so, so bad they’re funny.

Aren’t you glad you stuck around for that?

Fun Vampire Cartoon

Found this on youtube and wanted to share.

Now there’s a man that knows to stay away from a real vampire 😉

ha hahahahahahaha!

Vampires Get Depressed Too – Fun YouTube Video!

Jonathan Harvey – aka Jissilly – shared this song with me the other day.  There are several video versions (Jonathan Coulton, the singer, shares his music under a CC license so it is ideal for making youtube videos to. Really, it’s a clever marketing scheme if you think about it because THEY do all the work making the videos and you just had to make the song… but I digress) Anyway, this was my favorite of the videos:

Wasn’t that fun? I guess if we find dark, dreary days depressing, then sun hating vampires would hate the blue sunny days… Okay, honestly, I’m kind on the vampire’s side. Give me gloom over the blue skies most any day. Except during January when an ice storm knocks out the electricity for a week. I was never so glad to see the sun in my life as I was then!

Special Sale and Fun Videos!

Yeah, it’s a “two fer'” post.

First I want to announce the exciting news that Shades of Gray, previously $11.00 in paper back, is now $7.50.

That's a $3.50 savings!!

GET IT HERE

Yeah, this is that “Pro plan” I talked about, though I opted out of the extended distribution for the moment because it means I’d have to leave the price at $10.50. And,  where as it does make the books available to book stores such as Barnes and Noble or Borders, the only way my book would be there is if someone walked in, went to the counter and said, “Hey, can I get Shades of Gray by Joleene Naylor?” And if they’re doing that, then there’s a good chance that they could have just gotten the book online. In the end, with shipping and handling, they probably pay the same amount, and have it there in the same amount of time, except that they then have to go back to the bookstore to pick the book up, vs having it dropped off at their door.

I don’t know.  I might enable it later, meaning that this $7.50 thing may not be around forever. So, if you haven’t got the paper back yet, now’s the time to do it.

On a side note, I’m still waiting for the prize books to arrive. They’re supposed to be here no later than Monday, which means Wednesday for us in hicksville, so cross your fingers.

And now for the videos I promised!

I found these from random postings on the CPC Vampire vs Zombie Challenge and wanted to share them. The first one is short but hilarious:

And here’s another spoof/parody that gave me a giggle:

And as a bonus, this one isn’t exactly vampire related, but it was catchy and amused me:

Vampire Parodies

While checking out some links sent to be by Jonathan, aka Jissilly, I ran across these two Vampire/Twilight parodies by Key of Awesome and thought they were amusing enough to share.  No matter what your opinion is of the Twilight franchise, you should still get a chuckle out of them.

*chuckling*

Forsaken on YouTube: proof people have too much time on their hands

I was going to add a bonus music video to the release announcement because it’s a pretty pointless blog on it’s own, so I headed to youtube to find one of my  favorite vampire songs; Forsaken by David Draiman of Disturbed. It was on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack, a movie most notable for straying as far from the book as it could while still having the same characters.

The problem wasn’t that I couldn’t find this video, but that I couldn’t decide which version to share.

There is the very cool soundtrack version, complete with some movie clips:

This must be followed, of course, by the “reverse” version, in which someone has taken the song and, for reasons I can’t guess, turned it around backwards:

But, if that wasn’t bizarre enough, here is the  chipmunk version. I’m not joking:

This leads me to one conclusion: people on youtube have too much time on their hands.

Oh, and I bet David Draiman would still be hot, even dressed as a chipmunk.

Where’s the Trailer, Naylor?

If I have my way, Legacy of Ghosts will be out the first week of october, which means roughly three weeks from now.

Yeah, three weeks.

That leads one to the question: where the heck is your book trailer?

Answer: I don’t have one yet because I don’t have any ideas. Sure, I could just do the stereotypical “In a world of darkness, Katelina and Jorick must struggle against..blah, blah, blah.” set to a slideshow of some nice blood splatters and night shots, but eh. It just doesn’t inspire me.  Especially not after the trailer to Shades of Gray, which I thought was pretty cool (despite my not knowing how to do anything):

Soooo…. anyone have an idea? I could use one.  If you feel creative, the info for the book can all be read here.  That might help.  If you’re not feeling creative, then welcome to the club.

On the whole, I’m going to be missing for the next week, as it is time to knuckle down and do my final typo checking and start the horrid formatting process so I can get things uploaded and get my first proof ordered.  So, in case I don’t see you, have a great week!

After what has been a long, hot summer, autumn is finally here, and it’s brought some fun with it.

The winners of the Sharonlee Poetry Contest have been announced at the CPC! All the Judge’s choice winners will be receiving an autographed copy of Shades of Gray. A special congratulations goes out to all the participants for creating such wonderful poetry!

I found my blurb for the Legacy of Ghosts book cover and got it finished! Yay me!

Legacy of Ghosts cover 6 x 9 rough

If you’re curious, I went with “Sometimes the shadows of the past can darken the future.” It was a combination of ideas from myself, hubby and the internet. This just proves more heads are better than one.

And in case you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll be happy to tell you!

After the events of Shades of Gray, Katelina seeks rest and recovery at Jorick’s house by the sea. But peace is something that seems impossible to find, so long as she’s determined to stay with a vampire – and she is determined. Or is she?

Despite her growing attraction to her vampire “hero”, there are so many things she doesn’t know about him; so many secrets left hidden in the shadows. While Katelina struggles to unravel the mystery of a locked room and a faded photograph, a storm brews in the world beyond. Kateesha, a former ally, builds a secret war coven to fight the same battle as Jorick’s fledgling. But, a common enemy isn’t enough to overcome past betrayals, and the tempest explodes into a violent frenzy that may leave one of them dead, if not changed forever.

Old enemies will resurface and the past will come back to haunt both Jorick and Katelina as they’re pulled by opposing forces into a battle that neither had anticipated. Can they band together and stand strong against the waves that threaten to tear them apart, or will they loose themselves to old regrets and older guilt? And even if they can survive, is there any way to lay the memory of past mistakes to rest, or will they both be haunted by their ghosts forever?

Coming in October 2010, Legacy of Ghosts, the second installment of the Amaranthine series, plunges back into a world of blood and cruelty where the darkness hold dominion and vampires don’t sparkle.

Speaking of my husband, he is hard at work coding the new website, which will hopefully be unveiled in time for the new book. It’s a much cleaner, tidier version, and I like it better, so cross your fingers!

If you haven’t visited my new Author’s blog yet, then please stop by to enjoy sneak peeks, random vampire fun and the occasional word on self publishing. You can find it at https://joleenenaylor.wordpress.com/.

Now for the obligatory “blah, blah, go buy my books, blah, blah…”

101 Tips for Traveling with a Vampire is available through Amazon Kindle for $.99 or Smashwords where you can set your own price and pay only what it’s worth to you!

Of course, if you’ve missed Shades of Gray, you can still get it through Amazon/CreateSpace for $11.00 , Amazon Kindle for $1.50 and Smashwords where you can set your own price!.

Feel like you’re missing out because you’re only on Facebook? Why not become a fan of the very cool Shades of Gray Fan Page Since Facebook has changed the way the pages work (of course) I am thinking about making an author page in the near future, so more details on that when/if it happens.

And if you’re in the market for a book cover, or book cover art, you might want to check out Coverart.JoleeneNaylor.com and see what I have to offer. This last month I completed 11 book covers:

Random Fun

The Interesting link: Kindle Nation Daily. You want Kindle books? This site has links to kindle books – cheap Kindle books! And what’s better than cheap, except free? Oh, well they have links to those too! Go, browse.

The Lots-O-Fun link: Cartoon Doll Emporium This might be a little girly, but it;s still a lot of fun. Hundreds of flash “paper doll” applications where you can dress and accessorize, and then save. Why? I don’t know. It’s just fun, people!

The Read of the month: My Lord Hades by Stephannie Beman (from smashwords) In a world where Gods rule and Daemons are feared, Hades, the most notorious Phlegethon daemon-god to roam the ancient world, is released from his prison in Tartarus by the Olympian Zeus to aid in the war against the Titians, and then he meets Persephone, daughter of the earth goddess Demeter, and may just lose his heart.

The Music of the month: Thousand Houses An indy band from Omaha, nebraska, led by the former front man of the now defunct Blue Moon ghetto, which had success back in the 90’s and whose CD’s sell for sixty plus dollars on Amazon (seriously!). The best part about the new band isn’t that they sound a lot like Blue Moon Ghetto, or even that they’re music is great, but that you can get their first album, Inside the Wires, as a free digital download just by singing up for the newsletter. Awesome, huh?

The Video of the month: Funny Lego Spoof of Harry Potter by Adam Carlson. The name says it all. “Hermie-own, Hermie-own, Hermie-own.” yeah, those weird, zombie like voices were stuck in my head all day! And though I love professor Snape, and bearded Draco, the Weasley Twins still win in my book 😉

(if you have suggestions for the links of the month please email them to me at joleene@joleenenaylor.com – you will be credited by whatever name you choose.)

The Terrible Turtle Conspiracy is a weekly manga/comic written by Jonathan Harvey and illustrated by Joleene Naylor that tells the story of the giant turtle attack in Tuttlesville and the interconnected aftermath.
