You might have seen mentions of the week long Amaranthine Facebook party coming to a device near you October 11th – 17th, 2015. Each day will have a theme, with Thursday the 15th being a “Featured Author Day” where I’d like to feature fellow paranormal authors. If you – or someone you know – would be interested, then please read on:
How it Works:
If you’re not familiar with the term facebook party, it is essentially an online “gathering” – guests don’t need to be online for the whole duration, or even necessarily at a set time. They can “check in” as often as they like and participate in games, discussions, and chances for prizes. For instance on Day 1 I will post a thread asking guests to name an interesting fact about themselves – it can be anything – and encourage them to reply to one another’s comments. This post/thread will remain “open” until the end of the day. Then I’ll have random.org choose one commenter to win the big prize of the day – a paperback copy of the Amaranthine Files handbook. Meanwhile, through out the day, I will post three other smaller games/discussion topics such as “What’s your favorite vampire movie?”, “What’s your favorite vampire TV show”, and a game using your name and birth date to determine your “Amaranthine Book Name”. Each of those will have smaller prizes and the play time for them may be an hour to two hours from the post time – meaning that after an hour or two the game “closes” and random.org chooses a winner. In between I may – or may not – post some excerpts of stuff I’m working on or random posts designed to generate comments. The other days will follow the same formula, including the “Featured Author Day”.
On the Featured author day I would like to give each author a chunk of time – for instance if we have three authors one could have 9am-1pm, one could have 1pm-5pm, and the third could have 5pm-9pm. It could be divided differently, but you get the idea. During each of those, one of the three small prizes can be given away, and the large one will go to a commenter who participated in at least one post from ALL the featured authors.
Ideally three authors would work best since there are three prizes BUT if there were more I could look for extra prizes.
Prizes:
I mentioned prizes up there – but don’t worry! – I’ve already purchased them! The small prizes are a vampire bat antenna topper, a book light, and a bracelet, and the big prize is a baseball cap with vampire pins/buttons.
What I need from you:
First, I need to know you want to do it! Then which time slot/small prize would best fit you and your work (Donna – that bracelet has butterflies on it – just saying). On the 15th you’ll need to be on hand during the time you’ve chosen – not necessarily the WHOLE time, but you should be able to check in at least once an hour to reply to comments.
Before the 15th I would need your “prize post” – this can be a game people play and comment on, a discussion question, or an excerpt of your book that guests comment on (You can google ides if you need to). If it’s text based I’ll need it in the body of an email, and if it is image based, sent as an attachment. I will also need your author bio, your links – facebook, website, blog, facebook author page, book links to *no more than three books*, preferably vampire related – book cover, book blurb, author photo, and an excerpt of between 500-900 words. I will post your author page (if you have one- otherwise just your links) when I introduce you, and invite guests to ask you questions and like your page. Later during your time slot I will post your excerpt with info where to get the book, and in another post I will put up your “prize post”. If you have multiple books I will share them as individual posts during your slot as well. If you’d like more posted – that would be great! Just make sure I have all of the material on hand before October 15th. You could also make posts of your own if you wanted to. Though I am making the initial posts, you will need to reply to comments on them. I don’t foresee us being swamped by millions of replies (sadly) so checking in at least once an hour should work fine.
I’m pretty sure you have to be “going” to the event in order to comment/post.
What if my vampire novel isn’t published yet?
That’s okay! We can still promote your author page, blog, website, and post excerpts of the “upcoming” book. We can also run links for up to two non-vampire books.
